Buying a franchise... think twice at least

If 2007 is like the past several years, over 65,000 new franchises will be sold in the U. S. and Canada, one every 8 minutes! More and more displaced, outplaced, disgruntled or disappointed people are looking at franchising as a solution to their Career Pains. Whether insecurity, financial limitations, corporate politics, life balance or any one of many such pains, they feel “There must be something better out there”. And they may be right.

However, too many people who take the step to business/franchise ownership find out too late that their problems as business owners are more serious than any they faced as employees. No income, a constant drain on savings, a disappearing vision of success and long, long hours are just a few of the factors that make some new business owners wish they had never taken that step. Franchise ownership offers no guarantee of success.

In my business, working with people who are considering buying a franchise, I am often asked “What are the biggest reasons people fail?” And some of these people listen intently, then go off on their own and completely disregard what they have been told. I have actually had people say to me, “Well, I can see how that is true for most people but…..” and then go on to say how “different” they are; how their experience or intelligence or “connections” will make them immune to these issues.

Part of the reason for being unable to grasp the importance of what they are told is that the reasons for failure, on the surface, sound so simple. As an example, reason #1 “People don’t know what they want”, makes the buyer seem pretty stupid. However, it is easy (and natural) to have an idealized vision of a business based on information that is completely invalid for you; the fact that a neighbor or relative is successful; that a particular franchise is “hot”, or perhaps the business is seen as an extension of a hobby you have always enjoyed. Because it seems so simple, people assume they have their answers and go forward, only to find out, too late, what they should have known. It is only when the reasons for failure are examined closely and deeply that one can understand how very intelligent, successful people make these mistakes.

1. “People don’t know what they want”

Prospective franchisees need to spend a great deal of time compiling a list of attributes that complete this sentence: “To meet my personal and professional goals, my business must…….”. This list must go much further than “enable me to make $100,000/year” It should include issues such as “provide time with family”, “offer a creative outlet”, “allow me to manage the business, not run it day-to-day”, etc. Until that list is complete, they really do not know what they want and can not possibly begin looking.

2. “People don’t know what they are buying”

With the above list in hand, prospective buyers now have questions for franchisors and franchisees of the prospective franchise that focus on their specific issues. The calls to the franchisees are of utmost importance; these are the people who know the realities of that particular business and the best source of information on what you’re really buying. This step must not be skipped.

3. “People run out of money”

Even though the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (required by the FTC to be given to prospective franchisees) is fairly specific in terms of the capital needed to get the business up and running (The Total Investment), without discussions with many franchisees who have done it, many new franchisees just run out of money. Find out from franchisees (1.) how long it took to get to “break even” and (2.) if the Total Investment in the UFOC proved to be valid. Do not assume you can get to break-even sooner than the average or that you can get by with less capital. You cannot!

4. “People don’t use the system for which they paid money”

Usually, people seeking their own business have been successful in their previous careers. Unfortunately, that success seems to breed an attitude that “I know a better way”. So, in spite of having paid tens of thousands of dollars for a successful business system, many new franchisees do not follow that system and they fail. The best advice is “Follow the system to the letter until you are successful; then you may have the luxury of innovation.

5. “People don’t know how hard it is going to be”

It seems that no matter what they are told, people always under-estimate how hard it is going to be to start their business. As one who has done it several times, take my advice “This is going to be harder than you imagined”. You may be smarter, more experienced, more talented than most. It will still be harder than you think.

In closing, it should be noted that after I give the “Harder then you think” advice, I always follow with “but if you are successful, owning your own business can reward you beyond your wildest expectations”. That is, after all, why we do it.

Apartment property managers focus on water conversation through sub-metering

Water conservation is a growing trend among municipalities, townships and through-out the multi-family apartment industry. In a three year study by the “National Multiple Family Submetering and Allocation Billing Program”, the potential savings in the apartment sector from requiring residents to pay for their water consumption separately from their rent, found that billing residents for their water usage by direct metering could reduce annual water consumption by an average of 15 percent. This latest research supports the apartment industry’s known fact that people always place greater value on things that they pay for. Not only do residents use less water when they are paying for it, but it also makes them more aware of the importance of immediately reporting plumbing leaks. A balanced and well implemented utility billing program is one of those rare issues that water companies, regulators, water conservation groups, property management companies and apartment / condominium owners can all be united. American Accounting and Billing Service (AABS) a nationwide full-service utility billing company with the reputation for the lowest billing fees and highest-rated customer service department has compiled a few benefits of why apartment owners and property management companies should install automated meter reading (AMR) water metering systems.

Water sub-metering immediately increases property value and cash flow more than any other ancillary service or comparable capital investment.

A water submetering system provides for the fair allocation of the property’s water and sewer utility costs among its tenants (Allocation or Ratio Utility Billing do not always allocate fairly, according to the USEPA) so residents are happier. Tenants billed for actual water usage will be able to directly affect water consumption and utility costs by becoming more knowledgeable and responsible users.

Water submetering has been shown to decrease water consumption by as much as 8,000 gallons per unit per year according to the USEPA, when compared to non-metered properties thus conserving one of our nation’s most valuable resources.

Water and sewer rates and other utility rates are rising as much as 10% or more per year on average. Some areas of the country have seen water rates double in the last year. A water submetering project will protect the property owner from the rising water and sewer utility costs.

The property owner can increase the NOI immediately because payback is fast and monies formerly allocated for water and sewer utilities can be reallocated for maintenance and or renovation, a project which further increases property values.

These benefits are achieved without increasing the workload on the property’s staff and without the associated liability and costs of monthly visits by a utility meter reader.

Implementing a third party water sub metering billing program helps to conserve water and energy and protect the environment.

“There is no question that our business has grown steadily for the past five years because owners are now realizing that water and sewer costs can be avoided by putting in place a successful third party billing system” says Sam Kordares, AABS President. “We here at AABS are now expounding on the notion of water conservation through water submetering to include tapping into the municipality and township sector” Kordares says. Having everyone responsible for their own water usage is the first step to conserve one of earth’s most precious resources.

Site5 web hosting review

I have been hosting some of my websites with Site5 for about a year now. I also have other websites hosted in other web hosting companies. Here is my review for site5 based on my own personal experience with them

Why I choose Site5

I got to know about Site5 through the webhostingtalk forums. At that time, I was searching for a reliable and reputable cheap web hosting company for a couple of my new websites. And I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about Site5 and so decide to try them out. Since they have a 60 day money back refund, I figure if I did not like it, I would ask for my money back. Anyway, I was basically testing their web hosting on my new websites so I was not terribly affected.

Site5 Hosting Plan

Site5 only offer two types of hosting plan : shared and reseller. So I took the superhosting extreme package. Basically here’s the brief web hosting package details :

Diskspace : 8GB

Bandwidth : 500GB

Multisite Accounts : 5

Unlimited : domain pointers, ftp, mysql

It also comes with fantastico, cpanel. All this for about $109 annually which is pretty cheap. Please note this hosting plan is no longer available and is replaced with multisite dynamite plan. It is basically the same as my previous plan except for more diskspace and bandwidth. As I’m writing this, they have a promotion where you can get this hosting plan for 2 years at only $149 which I consider to be a good deal.

Unique Features of Site5 hosting

One feature I like about site5 hosting is the multisite accounts. It is basically a full featured control panel for each domain. Unlike other shared web hosting companies which uses domain pointers, a multisite accounts exists on its own with its own subdomains, domain pointer, ftp, mysql etc. This help me to organize my websites better especially if you have a lot of domains. You can set the diskspace and bandwidth from the main pool of your web hosting account.

The other feature is the flashback which allows you to undo any changes you make to your website. It is a life saver especially when a website breaks down and you do not know the cause.

Things that can be improved

Though I like Site5 and would recommend it to friends, there are a few things that could make it better. One of them is the upgrade option. I recently upgraded my hosting plan to multisite dynamite and was told I had to shift to another server. The problem was I had to do the data transfer myself. With 3GB of data to transfer, not to mention the dozens of ftp, mysql and email accounts, it was a real hassle. Something I am sure their staff could have easily completed in a short time.

The other thing I didn’t like was I could not request for more IP addresses. If you know about SEO, then you know how having multiple IP addresses can be useful.

In all, I would still recommend site5 due to its cheap web hosting plan, good support and high availability.

Writing an ezine made simple

Writing an ezine is something anyone can do. It is a great way to help your internet business and connect with your customers and potential customers.

An ezine is basically an online magazine that is sent through email. It will allow you to provide your readers with useful information while also selling your products.

Getting started with writing an ezine is the hardest part. Once you get that first issue developed and sent out then you will find it comes easily after that.

So, to get started you need to come up with your ezine idea. You need a basic concept that is the topic of your ezine. This should not be too difficult because you are going to be writing about your products.

You should also develop some type of outline for your ezine. You want to include some articles, maybe some helpful hints and tips and, of course, links to your products.

You want to develop a good template that you can use for each and every issue of your ezine. This will help you make it easier to write each issue and it will help the readers to become familiar with your ezine layout and content.

You want to make sure you include useful information in your ezine. Writing an ezine is as much about providing the reader with information as it is about selling your product. Your readers need a reason to read your ezine, so you have to give them something they can use.

Writing an ezine is not something that has to be difficult. You should already have some knowledge about your product and that knowledge can be shared with your readers through your ezine. Take what you know and write about it. Share your knowledge with your readers and they will like that you are an authority on the topic and this will lead to them trusting in you and your products.

A home business will offer you freedom

There are so many occasions in which a gift basket can make a wonderful gift. Holidays, birthdays and anniversaries are all great occasions where a gift basic would be a fitting gift. This is why creating your own gift basket home business is such a sound opportunity. You can make the baskets from your home and advertise through the local paper or online for a larger advertisement opportunity.

Basket Occasions

You can create gift baskets by theme, holiday or occasion. Your baskets can go from simple to extravagant. This allows you to appeal to every customer’s budget. In order to create a thriving business you should do some researches about your competition, which will allow you, understand how to price your items. Check gift basket sites online as well as local providers. You will want to keep your prices within range of your competition perhaps slightly lower priced.

Business Research

You will also want to look over some wholesale sites for your baskets items. You can easily find items at great prices for your baskets. You can even receive discounts when ordering in bulk, which can come in handy when beginning a new business. You will also want to invest some time in creating ideas and designs for your gift baskets. You can find inspiration through magazines and books from your local library. You may also want to see if bakeries or other shops in your area are interested in placing items in your baskets for partial profit. This can allow you to sell your baskets in local gift shops by having an item from that shop in your basket. Creating a network with bakeries and local shops can help build a solid business foundation.

Be Creative

Think outside of the box with your gift baskets. You can take an inexpensive tool box and fill it with sunflower seeds, beef jerky and a sporting magazine for a Father’s day basket. For mother’s day take a large pitcher and place a book, a towel, sunglasses and tea packet for a "relax the day away "basket. The more unique and eye catching you can create the more you will appeal to customers.

Think big for holidays. You can make a gift basket for both large and small holidays. You can even create gift baskets in remembrance of loved ones. The possibilities are endless. It’s a matter of opening your eyes to creativity. You can release your creative spirit and make an honest and fulfilling living for yourself and your family. You provide yourself with a home based business opportunity that can not only care for your family now but last well into the future as a job that can be passed down as a family business. Home business from the profit angle

A home business has so many positive sides to it and the profit angle is one side that draws many people in. By creating a home business you eliminate the need for a boss or other employees taking profit away from you. You are the man or woman on top. You take home the greatest portion of profit made fro your business. This brings us to the three main reasons why the profit angles of a home business are so appealing.

You’re the Boss

Since you are the boss and you run your company you make all of the financial related decisions. You can choose what areas of your business can be thriftier than others. You choose where and how and how much money to save. You work the hours that you choose and not what your employer tells you to. You can work or not work on holidays and so on. You are truly the one person who makes the choices that lead to your profits and losses.

No Employees

Most likely when taking on a home business, you will be running it either solo or with a single partner. This cuts the need for employees and saves the profit earned and to be shared by yourself or between you and your partner. No losses can be created, no damages to business equipment to throw money away on.

In-house

If you make your products or you provide your business services, than most likely everything is done “In-House”. What I mean by this is that if you make your own flyers and business cards in your home office, it is done “In-House”. By doing this you keep from paying additional funds to outside workers. If you can make your products without the aid of another company, that you are saving your profits for yourself.

These three simple areas that are involved in running a home business make the profit angle of home business so appealing. The fact is that you truly have the power over your profits. You decide how much to bring in, and how much profit goes outside of your business. This is why so many people today are leaving their current jobs to become home business owners. The power to run your life and the power over your finances draws us in. There is no greater feeling than knowing that you control your life. You wake up happier and smile more throughout your day. Looking at the profit angle of home businesses can make you see running a home business as more than an opportunity but possibility. A possibility that can change the way you live your life as well as the life of those in your family. Looking at the profit angle of business, do you think a home business is for you? It certainly could be.

Making your station right for work

When you think about the lies or untruths we are told in our lifetimes, it's hard to know which one in the most prominent. Whether it's George Washington chopping down the cherry tree, or that time in history when people were told the earth was flat, myths have been around as long as truth has. One myth (or lie) repeated to us every time we shop is this: One size fits all. In all of the items I've seen marked with that phrase, I've never seem them actually fit everyone who wants to wear or use them. In fact some clothing manufacturers admit "all" is kind of a stretch and are now printing "one size fits many" on their garments. The area that most needs to catch up to the idea that one size doesn't fit all is work environment designers. People who create office space with desks, computers and chairs all the same don't understand that an ergonomic work space will be different for every person they employ.

Chair and Desk

Every person has a different body, and needs a chair that fits and encourages the best posture for that person to work in. A good chair should be able to be easy to adjust have a back that goes high enough to support the spine without any pressure points. It should allow arms to be supported with arm rests that are aligned with the desk to ensure the wrists hang at a natural level to interact with the keyboard. The chair should also have a caster-set 5 wheel base so there is more stability toward the center of the chair and the wheels should move easily. The desk should be at such a height that people can sit with their feet on the floor and have at least 8 to ten inches between the top of their legs and the desk. This will also help the monitor stay at a higher level.

Keyboard and Mouse

Factory workers used to be the unchallenged number one worker for suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome or repetitive motion injuries. Keyboardists and data entry clerks now challenge them for the number of claims submitted each year. A keyboard should be in position slightly below the wrists so they hover over the keypad and the fingers can move freely. Although wrist pads are popular items they actually hinder the posture process for constant typists because the wrists resting up cause the hands to be at a bad angle. The keyboard itself should have spring assisted keys so they can provide momentum to the fingers and be capable of being placed in the reverse inverted position. A mouse should be close enough to the keyboard that the typist does not have to reach to use it or put their hand in an unnatural position.

Monitor and Printer

A huge source of neck strain has been the act of looking down to see a monitor. The monitor of a work station should be at eye level so the head as to be at nor more than a 30 degree angle. The monitor should be 20 to 30 inches way from the eyes of the typist and should be adjustable so the glare from lights or the sun does not interfere with work. The printer should be in a position away from the desk so the typist can stand up and move around to retrieve paperwork. The small break in momentum will help the body sustain work longer because it's not in the same position all day long. If a printer must be within grasp, it should be on the desk in such a way that the typist is not encouraged to lean or stretch the back to get the paper.

Realizing one workstation type will not fit all people will save dollars, pain and time for the business and the employee. That's a truth worth striving for.

Either way, you'll want to take the time to come up with a few possible home business ideas.

When you start brainstorming, spread out and give yourself a lot of room. You'll want to write down every idea that comes to mind. You can use a computer and type your ideas, write them down on paper, or use dry erase boards. The more you write down, the more ideas you will have to work with.

Now consider what makes you happy in life. Start writing down anything that brings you pleasure. The reason you want to make a list of everything that makes you happy is because you'll want to start a home business by working with something that makes you happy. You'll want to enjoy the work that you are performing each day.

The final thing that you will want to add to your list is everything that you are good at. After you have gathered all your thoughts on paper, you will start to see trends in your lists. From there, you will be able to research online which home businesses cater to your desires and skill set.

Hosting in the modern day of cyberspace

So what has hosting have to offer? A lot. Hosting is more than just a website that contains a bunch of words and graphics that are designed similar to printed posters to be appealing to the eyes. Hosting is a virtual business and identification card to which can be found using the world of cyberspace. Many people are located in cyberspace today, using it as the main means of communications and advanced business undertakings. It has totally evolved into something that has given companies and organizations an overall facelift on what strategic management is all about.

With the growing competitiveness of most business ventures today, various new strategies have been taking place today. Among them is the investment in technology and easily, it is website hosting and technological tools connected with building awareness overt the web that has been the new tool for efficient business management ventures. A lot of local businesses in your region exist, and while most would spend millions in making ads to help carry out their various awareness building plans for products, services and overall corporate existence.

The best thing about hosting is the fact that they are not expensive compared to the usual tri-media services we hear about today. Practically anyone can resort to this type of support. It doesn’t need much overhead costs. All it needs is a good host and a good web administrator to get the jobs done. There are also a lot of companies who offer this as a package to which a simple sign-up can prove to be beneficial in their search for a more profitable venture that can be easily identified in the congested consumer market the world has today.

Hosting goes in line with proper domain name selection. These two are the key essentials in making the entire resort a beneficial one. Bandwidths, storage space, scripts, discount deals, packaged deals and of course customer and technical support are the key areas of interest to which a client will always look at prior to anything else. People will always seek the best value for their money and they have an abundant list of providers to which they can be able to do so.

Building identity and finding their place on the web may sound easy, but it needs proper selection and study before choosing the best hosting solution service offered by companies such as House of Hancock. Whatever the final choice may be, the only concern that people would have in mind is the fact that they are after establishing their business with the help of hosting technology over the Internet and broaden their target market as well. With the Internet audience, this is a reality that they can sure to benefit from.

Nothing beats having your own host when you use email hosting services for your company. Adding that branding mark of having the company name in dotcom fashion really makes an impact when people present themselves or communicate with other companies. It really creates quite an impression considering that we are in the age were emails and websites are now at the forefront of building branding over the Internet today.

That is not all. Consider the fact that emails allow most people to communicate with anyone anywhere in the world if the recipient also has an email to use. Considering our modern age of communications, the chances of that party having their own email hosting provider is a practically a given. Emails have made it more economical and logical for people who converse and transact business without having to worry about escalating telephone bills like the early days.

Key to web success is building traffic

The road to success for any business is its ability to enlarge its customer base and bring in more potential buyers. Traditional businesses do this through advertising in traditional ways such as newspapers, radio and television. They also count on word-of-mouth from satisfied customers.

Internet businesses also count on traffic to produce sales but building traffic in the internet age takes a new direction referred to as internet marketing. Since most of the customers you want to visit your site are online, the best course is to advertise online. However, where is always the question. Building traffic requires time, effort and in many cases money but most of all it requires patience.

Affiliate programs are rapidly turning into the most financially feasible methods of advertising available on the internet. It has the potential of placing your ad on virtually thousands of web sites at no cost to you, until they produce results. Affiliates also offer a more targeted effort for your ads and reach more of the customers who might use or need your products or services.

Not everyone who visits your site will but on the first visit, but in building traffic to your site you can put it in a position for future sales success. Having a group of affiliates advertising your site online, preferably sites relating to the type of business you are in, should prove very effective in raising the number of visitors you see on your business’s web site.

Additionally, by offering useful information such as informational web content, you will be building traffic by making your site more attractive to search engine spiders. Being found through a search engine is probably the most rewarding way of building traffic as the visitors are looking for what you have to offer and not merely stumbling across the information.

Se optimization for article writing so last year

So, you wanna be an SEO guru. Things change at a rapid pace online. As soon as Web 2.0 was here, talk of Web 3.0 ensued. SEO was dead and then no wait! It was alive and kicking, according to the pundits. There were black hat marketers, white hat marketers, grey hat seo and the Long Tail. Did you change hats at some point in a panic? Is keyword density really that important? Is content still king? One day it’s PPC campaigns, another day it’s organic ranking through blogging links and then articles. Aargh! How do I keep it all straight?

Today, it can be hard to keep up with the buzz words. Once you’ve optimized your website, you can find out a minute later that Google has changed the rules again. What do you do? If you get too wrapped up in all the rules and jargon of seo marketing, you will actually take your eye too far off the ball and lose business and page rank anyway.

First of all, content always has and always will be king. Writing strictly for SEO is not going to get you very far for very long. Trying too hard to “not” write for seo isn’t going to get you very far either. If you’re worried about overdoing it with your keyword density and don’t use your keywords enough, you can end up with content that doesn’t come across naturally. Good, organic content is going to help you in more ways than one. First, it’s going to help you get real human traffic. Secondly, it’ll get the Google and Yahoo spiders stopping by.

Keeping updated on how things work with the search engine spider bots is going to help you keep your website on either page one or page two. If you can’t manage this on your own, hire a pro, enrol in a course or buy a book. If you are past page two for your target keywords, your target audience probably won’t find you. You also need to focus on the Long Tail and target more than just the top three keywords.

If you get your audience visiting but don’t offer them valuable content, they won’t stay and won’t click on their “checkout” button. You have to please the robots and the humans. If you overdo SEO you won’t please the humans. You could also tick off the robots and get blacklisted. If you try to be an underachiever and ignore SEO, you could miss out and be stuck on page seven.

For those who have done a lot of seo articles, it’s a great idea to stop writing seo articles for a while and focus on something else. Did you know that forum participation and blogging can be really effective at helping you with your PR? Diversify your seo strategy a little! Social book marking and tagging are another area of seo strategy that can truly help you bring up your readership and ranking of your site and increase your sales.

Safe and stress-free shopping building customer trust

As more and more merchants move online, it becomes an increasing challenge to stand out from the pack. While price may influence a shopper’s choice, it’s usually not the deciding factor: most buyers would prefer to pay a bit more for an item they feel safe buying, than to spend less and worry they’re throwing their money away.

That’s why, as an online retailer, creating a safe and stress-free environment for your shoppers should be a top priority. With internet scams and identity fraud to worry about, most online buyers turn to merchants they recognize and trust. If customers don’t feel secure spending their money with you, they’ll move on to another auction or website where they do feel comfortable.

Suspicious Minds

According to Steve Woda, of BuySafe. com, “About fifty percent of people who surf online don’t buy online, and the number one reason is because they don’t trust something about the transaction—the merchant, the process, the payment method. Whatever it is, it’s always about trust.” There are numerous steps you can take to convey credibility to buyers and build their confidence in you:

• Professional Image. Your website or auction listing’s appearance creates a strong impression before customers read a single word. Make sure the message you’re sending is the one you want to be sending. Sloppy errors and misspelled words signal customers they aren’t dealing with a serious businessperson.

• Build Your Ratings. Your merchant ratings and feedback ratings go a long way towards assuring shoppers that, should they purchase from you, their products will arrive and be in good condition.

• Good Customer Service. Promptly returned phone calls and email inquiries, and thorough, courteous communications demonstrate to buyers that you’re a genuine, reliable merchant who will provide them good service.

• Third-party Solutions. This is one of the strongest signals you can send that your business is legitimate and trustworthy.

o Seals from companies like the Better Business Bureau, SquareTrade, and BuySafe tell customers your business has passed inspection and been approved by trusted third parties. BuySafe will even guarantee your transactions, so your buyers can shop risk-free.

o Verisign and GeoTrust SSL certificates let your buyers know their personal information is encrypted. Other third-party solutions are available, like HackerSafe which scans your site for vulnerabilities, and TRUSTe which examines your privacy policies. Making PayPal available as a payment option also tells buyers you’ve been through a very thorough verification process.

There’s more than enough data to prove that employing any of these solutions can significantly increase your conversion rate. When buyers trust you, they’re much quicker to spend money with you. Says Woda, “I do recommend merchants… deal with buyer uncertainties by leveraging as many of these things as they possibly can. It’s all about distinguishing [yourself] as professional, legitimate, and credible.”

Finding the best web hosting company

What is the best invention this century? Of course it is the super information highway – the Internet. What an amazing piece of technology, it connects people from around the world and allows people to learn and communicate. It is basically the biggest multimedia library in the world and it is free! What more could you want? If you like communicating then the internet was made for you. The internet is a world wide phenomenon that has been in the headlines since it first began. There has been lots of stuff written about the good and the bad aspects of the net but everything in life has a paradox so it is hardly surprising.

One of the best parts of the internet is that it is so easy to have your own space where you can share with the world your own likes dislikes etc. Maybe you are good at something and would like to share you talent with the rest of the world. Then the internet is ideal for sharing this. All you need is a bit of web hosting space and you are off. You don’t even need any website or designing skills; you can use Microsoft Word or any publishing software and create you website like any other document. As long as you can use a computer and am willing to learn a little it really is easy.

People do seem to get confused when it comes to domain names and web hosting. So what are they? Well to have a website on the internet the first thing you need to buy is your domain name, this is the Mysite. com part. Then you need “web hosting” which is paying for a company to store you website on their server. A server is a computer that is on all the time that “hosts” your website, in other words stores the website. You can make your own computer become a server but then for people to view your website at all times this needs to be on all the time, which is why most people use a hosting company. You pay them to make sure the site is online at all times.

Not sure which web hosting company should you go for? There are hundreds and all trying to get your business. You need to work out which company is offering the most and at what price. Not all companies offer telephone support. This is a must for any novice and is most important, you want to be able to pick up the phone and ask for help when needed. You want the option to upgrade your storage space. You may only want a small site initially but if your site does well and you need more space you want to easily upgrade. You may also need extra bandwidth when your site gets more hits.

You may want even more, like a content management system which allows you to simple add, edit and delete your own content without any knowledge of html, php or any programming language. All you see is a nice user friendly interface with simple usability. At a fee some companies offer this software and it is a great and fast way of adding content to your website.

Maybe you want to sell products over the internet which will mean you will need an ecommerce website with a shopping trolley feature. This is all very good if you have the programming skills necessary to create this, but few of us do in reality. So to have this feature we need to pay for this. Some web design companies offer this although the price can vary.

So what happens once you have your eCommerce website with shopping trolley facilities and you have the hosting you seem all set but your getting few visitors. You may be wondering why no one is actually viewing your site. Well this is because of the vast amount of websites and competition out there. Site engine optimsation is a full time job in its self, I know I do it! You can pay a company or someone to do all the hard work for you but it takes times and the results may not be instant.

Finding a hosting company that offers all these things is a tough task. There are some though. A company that offers domain registration, web hosting, web design, optimization, 24/7 customer support and email is the ideal company.

Ecommerce explodes for home-based business entrepreneurs

In recent years, we’ve seen a figurative explosion of home based business websites online. When once we only dreamed of having so many options available in order to individuals to make their own hours and work at home, the dream became a reality.

Ecommerce has allowed people from all walks of life to meet the needs of their target market audience and offer them the sorts of products that they really want.

However, this can be tricky when it comes to home based business options, since many online entrepreneurs want the opportunity to offer something that their competitors can’t.

In some cases, this is as simple as using autoresponders and various email marketing strategies that are not used by other individuals involved in the same field.

As a result, more buyers’ trend toward buying from the vendor that appears more internet savvy and who uses different marketing tools in order to make the experience more convenient for the customer.

When people began to realize that there was an abundance of information available both free and paid, to help them with their businesses, many were skeptical at first. They wondered if it was really possible that marketing techniques and software such as ecommerce shopping cart and other types of online ecommerce software could really impact their online sales that much.

The simple answer was they yes; they absolutely could, and do. Ecommerce businesses are more popular than ever before, and this is not just because we have the technology to make buying online easier.

The truth of the matter is that ecommerce shopping is often so much easier and so much more convenient that individuals are appreciative of the fact that they no longer have to drive around from store to store looking for whatever product it is that they feel they need.

Instead, they can just log on a multitude of different online stores and buy the products that they want in just minutes. As more and more people see the benefits of ecommerce shopping, the demand for more individuals increases to sell into the smaller market niches and supply the items that the public desires.

When individuals have their own business, and there is no reason for them to be working in an office, they have the freedom locate their business anywhere they like.

For example, if the business is selling product in the electronic market online, there is no reason for the entrepreneur to have anything other than a home based business, since this allows them flexibility and convenience while at the same time allowing them to generate a profitable income from home.

These are just some of the reasons that ecommerce home based businesses have become so popular. There are so many commercials and advertisements that talk about how simple and easy it is to have a work at home, home based business. It really is so much easier than many people think. The boom is a natural response to the convenience and efficiency that the “online store model” offers the home based entrepreneur.

Protect your home business from extreme weather

Weather can have a devastating affect on your home business. In the summer of 2007 the UK experienced much higher rainfall than normal. May to July was the wettest 3 months since records began. Around 50,000 houses and 7000 businesses suffered flood damage.

As the rain kept coming our flood defenses struggled to cope. Many homes had disruption in their power supply, communications were knocked out and some even had problems with their fresh water supply.

Extreme weather caused by climate change seems to be happening more regularly. What can you do to prevent some of the damages caused by freak weather? You could start off with making sure that you have adequate home business insurance.

Prepare for the worst by having a Business Continuity Plan. Keep regular backups of crucial data and have plans ready to get your business back on track quickly after a mini disaster. Buy basic equipment like torches, batteries & candles and invest in a small fire extinguisher. Keep some rock salt handy in case of snow or ice.

Make sure all your windows and doors are sealed properly. If you have an old chimney, make sure it is still secure and if you do not need it anymore then remove it altogether.

Get an electrician in to see if any measures can be taken to protect you from power disruption or surges. Simple measures like having the right cable, decent fuse box and power sockets at least 12 inches above floor level could make a huge difference.

Ask your local expert plumber for advice. Check your drains to make sure there are no blockages. You can install non return valves in your drains and toilets so that water can only flow one way.

If you have large trees growing beside the house, make sure the branches are trimmed back, especially the ones closest to your house, windows, power lines and telephone lines.

Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and if there are storms forecast for your area then make sure you take some simple measures like stowing away any loose items in the garden including garden furniture.

Unplug all electrical equipment and make sure they are stored as high as possible. If you have expensive rugs on the floors, roll them up and store somewhere safe. Remove items of sentimental value and take them upstairs.

If after all your preparation you still experience some damage contact your insurance company immediately. Take pictures of any damages before you start tidying up again. If at all possible wait until they have managed to inspect the damage before the big clean up.

Climate change is happening. There is evidence everywhere. The glaciers are melting, oceans are heating up and we are experiencing higher incidences of extreme weather. In Europe this year records tumbled. Dresden recorded the highest rainfall whilst France was hit by an unprecedented heatwave in modern times. Thousands of people died as a direct result of the heatwave.

The majority of the world scientists agree that unless steps are taken now it might become too late to reverse it. We might struggle to influence our politicians but by taking some basic steps our businesses can be better prepared for the future.

Blogging tips for starting a business

A very popular way to become better known in wellness, fitness, and nutritional supplements is through business blogging. A business blog is slightly different than other traditional blogging styles that many people are familiar with. Below you will find some handy starting business blogging tips that you can use immediately.

When you are starting business blogging it is important to set your blog up on a site that is already popular in the search engines. This provides you with a stronger chance of other people finding the blog and you have to spend less time promoting it.

Once you have determined where you will host your new business blog, think about the purpose of it. Starting the business is not going to be successful if you do not have a goal or purpose set out for the blog.

Some questions to ask yourself when deciding a goal for the blog include: Are you promoting a particular product such as a nutritional supplement? Will you be blogging to establish yourself as expert in a particular field such as the fitness industry? Are you going to use the blog primarily to connect with other people in the industry and network?

Starting business blogging requires you to think about a target audience. Are you going to be writing posts that will encourage people to purchase a specific product? Are you going to be writing posts that are full of the industry jargon and very technical?

Deciding a target audience will help you decide how to actually write your posts. For example, if you are going to be targeting potential buyers you want to write posts that will excite them about a particular set of products. On the other hand, if you are going to be writing for other people in the industry, you would want to write posts that contain industry jargon, informational posts, and posts with research findings. Knowing your audience is a key to successful blogging.

Once you begin, it is helpful to set up links with other blogs and websites. For example, if you are selling vitamins as your goal for your blog, you can find other blogs that provide information about vitamin benefits. You are then linking with someone that is not competing for the same buying market and their blog posts will compliment the purpose of your business blog.

You should spend time responding to comments left on your new business blog. Monitoring comments is an excellent way to network with other people. You can also provide answers to any questions that might arise as a result of a particular post you made. Some people leave spam and inappropriate comments. Make sure to delete these off of the business blog to keep the blog clean and looking professional.

Starting business blogs is a great way to begin a newsletter. Not everyone that visits will see your blog on a daily basis. You can compile each month’s blog postings into an email newsletter that others can subscribe too. This will increase regular readership as well as help you make additional contacts in your niche.

Starting business blogs is an excellent way to network market products with a soft-sell approach and it provides more information to the public about your industry field and to create newsletters. Take advantage of business blogs to help mold and shape the future of your company.

Optimizing websites for google

In today's competitive online market, anyone who is even a casual browser is aware of how important Google is to any business. Chances are, the bulk of your customers will be finding out about your business via Google, and whether you offer high-tech communication solutions or knitting supplies, you can bet that your sales will be affected by the position that your website occupies on a list of natural Google results. While you can certainly do your best to make a good site that is optimized for the Google search engine, there are many specific strategies that you can use to ensure that your website gets the traffic it needs.

The first and most obvious place to make your improvements is on the page itself. What do you offer in terms of good content? The Google search engine will search for context as well as content and through having good material on your site - articles, industry-specific glossaries and essays, to name a few - you'll be that much more attractive to Google. Essentially, you are looking to optimize your use of keywords and the context that they come in. Part of this is simply making sure that you have a good site that gives the people they want, but remember that it does go beyond that.

Keyword density, the amount of time that a word or phrase is used on your site, is an important factor to keep in mind. Research is often done to ensure that they keywords that you are using will bring the right customers to your website. If the content of your site is too general, you'll will end up not being specific enough and so loose relevance! Try to put yourself in the mind of someone who doesn't even know what your service is. What questions is this person going to be asking themselves, and what should you do to draw them to you?

When you are planning to optimize your site for Google's search engine, you should also remember that work should be done off your site as well. One thing that the Google search engine will judge you on is how many other sites will link to yours. If you are in a specialized business, where competitors are offering the precise same service that you are, there is a certain cachet in being a site that is linked to, which is something that Google has decided to use as a measure of your worth. Link building is the process whereby people make themselves more attractive to the Google search engine by ensuring that their link is everywhere. Remember that reciprocal links do not hold as much weight any more and so you should try to stick to one way links; while they can be very handy for building a rapport with other sites or businesses, keep in mind the fact that they are not appropriate tools when it comes time to help you with link building.

As you can see, making sure that your website gets the highest rank possible from the Google search engine is something of a full-time job. Make sure that you understand these basic concepts before you try to revolutionize the world with your web marketing abilities.

Is using paypal a good idea yes or no

PayPal is the kind of company that has gotten a thundering reputation. Consider the most famous of all online auction sites, and you will most likely remember that doing business without using PayPal is next to impossible. Sellers and buyers alike have realized that using PayPal is a good idea, not simply because it makes transactions quick, easy, and convenient, but also because it offers a modicum of safety in an Internet landscape that may be fraught with false claims, bad credit cards, and fraudulent transactions.

In the past, many an auction required the buyer to send to the seller a personal check. Once this was received – two to three days – the seller would deposit it and wait for the funds to clear, which for out of state checks usually took about five to 10 business days. After the transfer of the funds was verified, the seller would then send out the item. Of course, if the seller was a fraud, there was precious little the buyer could do since the transaction had already gone through the account. Certified checks were a bit faster, but once again they required the buyer to have extraordinary faith in the seller, and also necessitated a trip to the grocery store or bank to purchase such a check.

When PayPal entered the scene these two forms of payment became virtually obsolete. Granted, some sellers still offer their buyers the ability to purchase with a personal or certified check, but the majority of buyers do not want to bother with these kinds of payment any more. In addition to the foregoing, since PayPal permits payment processing even with the help of credit cards, everyone wins!

In today’s eBay market place, for example, there are a variety of stores that compete for business and as such they are set up to take credit card payments, but the average the seller does not have an account set up with MasterCard or Visa, and PayPal comes to the rescue by permitting the seller to accept the buyer’s credit cards simply via its payment processing service.

A lot of criticism has been made against the company, in part because so many hackers have tried their hands at cracking the codes. Some SPAM messages look remarkably realistic and therefore have caused unsuspecting customers to reveal passwords and other identifiable information that has granted third parties access to their accounts, but by and large this is a rare occurrence. PayPal goes to great length to ensure that clients are aware of the safety precautions taken by the company to prevent these kinds of problems. Similarly, there were some lawsuits brought against PayPal’s business practices with respect to business dispute resolution procedures. At this point in time the problems have been resolved satisfactorily and once again the question whether using PayPal is a good idea can be answered with a resounding “yes”!

Work at home jobs

Being self-employed often sounds exciting. The thought of not having to work for anyone else and being able to enjoy your freedom is appealing. Those who decide to take this route soon find out that this is often not the case and realize that they will actually be working long, hard hours for a few years as they try to get their business on its feet. The difference in being self-employed is that everything rests on your shoulders. When you were working for someone else, you had to deal with things you probably did not want to but the entire weight of the financial success of the company was not your concern – now it is. In this article, we will look at some types of businesses that you can have at home.

If you are a pet lover then consider a pet-based business from home. You may be one of those individuals that animals of all kinds are drawn to you and if so this type of business is perfectly suited to you. A pet-business can involve everything from pet sitting, to walking and training pets, and providing supplies and toys to the pet owners. More than 60 million American homes have pets and that is a huge market for a home based business on any level. Most pet owners will spoil the beloved animals with anything that they find is cute, fun, and practical.

Home improvement is an excellent business opportunity, as homeowners will pay to have items removed from their residence as well as fixing up much needed repairs. This is an excellent source of income for the person who is good at fixing things and loves to clean and clear items from one place to another. During the warmer seasons, this is a great way to make extra income. Obviously you cannot do this type of business with a car you will need a pick-up of some type of vehicle that is capable of carrying away a variety of items.

If you are good at typing and have knowledge of how to work a computer, you may want to consider medical transcription. Transcription can be done at home and if you do not have medical knowledge you can brush up on medical terminology or even through taking a quick course at your community college or other institute. This is a demand that will not slow down anytime soon. Doctor’s offices, dentists, and even veterinarians all need someone to transcribe their records. If you are good at typing and familiar with Word documents and formatting this is a good choice for you.

Are you good with computers and considering a home business where you can utilize your computer knowledge? You may be interested in starting a computer tech business from home offering support to the millions of Americans who own computers but often times become very frustrated with them.

Home-based jobs are becoming very popular for many families who are looking to increase their income but not necessarily work outside of the home.

Seo - about web conversion

A discussion of the term web conversion and what it means in terms of its relationship to search engine optimization techniques and pay-per-click.

Web conversion is the ultimate goal of all pay per click search engine programs. Basically all the term means is the ratio of sales to the visitors on your site. Visitors who actually buy once sent to your site are the “converts.” So for example, if you get 100 unique visitors to your website and make 3 sales, your conversion rate is 3 / 100 or 1%. If you master the fine art of pay per click management you could increase that conversion rate at least ten times. That would mean that three out of every ten people that visit your site would make a purchase.

The idea that you need lots of traffic to make sales is bogus. Increasing your web conversion ratio is one hundred times more important than getting traffic. Here is another example. You can make a lot more by charging a lot for a single product and attracting fewer visitors then you probably can by charging a minimal amount for a service and trying to attract a larger number of paying customer. This is because when it comes to pay per click you need to keep your costs of acquiring each customer down.

Your goal as a money making machine is to ad add even more carefully crafted search engine optimized ads to your pay per click campaign with the idea of bringing you one hundreds or more unique visitors a week. With some sites this can garner them thousands more in income a week. However before you do this always remember to factor in the costs of your keywords into the over all cost of your pay per click campaign. Remember that each time there is a click on your ad that does not result in a sale that your credit card will be charged or you will end up having paid for “hits” in your pay per click account deleted. This is a legitimate business expense that must always be configured into your final profit. Ignoring them as an expense (just because each click only costs a few cents or less) can be costly and a big business mistake!
