Safety pool covers do just what it says it does, it keeps the swimming pool safe from unwanted entry of the humans or animals. In ground and above ground winter swimming pool covers, keep dirt, debris, and animals out of your pool during the winter season. It also prevents growth on the inside of your swimming pool that can be caused by the winter elements.

Here are a few things you should look for when shopping for a pool cover for your above ground or in ground swimming pool.

Folding chairs your options and needs

Folding chairs are convenient, inexpensive, and easy to use and dress up. If you are having a celebration or a gathering and need to have enough seats for your guests, go ahead and consider folding chairs. They can be dressed up to not look tacky and they can be quite inexpensive. Save your money for the actual important things here. Folding chairs are a great option for any gathering and can help you to provide enough seats for everyone without going broke in the process.

Finding Them

You have two options here. You can rent folding chairs from hardware stores as well as office supply stores or you can purchase them. If you decide to purchase, you can find them inexpensively on the web. You can even purchase direct from the warehouse to save yourself a good amount of money. This would be a good choice if you have the continuous need for a large amount (or just a few) folding chairs.

What Types?

Did you realize that you had options in the types of folding chairs? You do. In fact, you can use plywood, aluminum, abs plastic or a number of other choices. When choosing the right choice for you, you will want to make sure that you choose stability and strength over costs. And, you will want to look for those that are large enough for comfort as well.

Dressing Them Up!

There is no rule that says that you can take the folding chair and make it look great. Adding ribbons and bows is a great way to do it. You can even rent slip covers to go over the top of them for an elegant choice as well. Choosing the right color folding chair is also important as you will want them to match tables or other furniture. There are many options out there to consider of course.

Aluminum sliding glass door removal

Last week I explained how to measure your existing sliding glass door so you can order the vinyl replacement door. This week I am going to go over the steps required to remove the old sliding door before installing the new door.

First, you have to remove the sliding panel and the stationary panel. The vast majority of doors out there have the sliding panel on the inside half of the track, and the stationary panel is on the outside. Whatever the case in your particular door, the outside panel has to come out first. To remove the fixed panel, you need to remove the sill cap that snaps into the bottom track and runs from the fixed panel to the side jamb where the sliding panel locks. Force a screwdriver into the crease and pry the cap up. Then, look for screws on the inside side jamb holding the fixed panel in place. These screws prevent someone from prying up the sill cap and pulling out the fixed panel in order to gain entry into the home. In addition to the side jamb, be sure to check across the top header and bottom track for screws there as well. Once all the screws have been removed, you need to pull the fixed panel away from the side jamb. You can start by simply grabbing the side rail of the fixed panel and pulling as hard as you can. If you're lucky, the panel will pop free. Then you can lift the panel up as far as it will go into the top channel and swing the bottom away from the track, and remove the panel. Now, I said "if you're lucky", because in most cases the panel will be stuck in the side jamb, the bottom track, or both. Usually, you're going to have to use a pry bar to loosen the fixed panel before it will slide out of the side jamb. Once the fixed panel is out, removal of the sliding panel is usually easier. Just lift up and swing the bottom away from the track, then remove the panel. Sometimes the bottom rollers will prevent the bottom from swinging out of the track. If that's the case, you will need to find the roller adjustment hole in the bottom corners of the sliding panel. Put a screwdriver into this hole and turn the screw counterclockwise to bring the roller as far up into the bottom of the sliding panel as possible. This should allow the slider to come out.

Now, you want to remove all the screws from the side jambs, top header, and bottom track. Then, take a pry bar and get it under the bottom track about in the center. Pry up until the track is separated from the floor. The next step will depend on whether your old frame is nailed to the house frame, or simply screwed in. If it's screwed in, then the frame should now be loose in the opening, since you removed all of the screws. You just need to remove whatever inside trim there might be around the door frame. This type of frame should come out. If your door is nailed to the house frame, you will have to do a bit more work. Use a hacksaw to cut the track in half, approximately in the center. Start with either half and raise the cut piece up towards the side jamb until the the track piece separates from the side jamb. Do the same thing to the other half.

So, now you have to remove the side jambs. You want to do this without damaging the exterior material that surrounds the door frame. Take a heavy chisel and pound it into the crack between the frame and exterior material, whether it's stucco, siding, etc. Start at the bottom 6 inches first. What you are trying to do is pull the nail fin away from the nails holding it in place. So, once the chisel is pounded through the metal frame, pry away from the side wall. The heavier and longer the chisel, the more leverage you will have. You will hear the frame "pop" free of the nail. There will be several nails holding each jamb in place, so you want to start at the bottom and work your way to the top corner. Once you get the bottom third loose, many times you can grab the jamb with both hands and pull the rest of the nails free as you go up. When you get to the top corner, work the jamb free. Do both jambs, then do the top. Sometimes the top has no nails, or just one in the center, so it will come down pretty easily. Be sure to wear safety glasses and a dust mask when doing this job, especially when removing the top header.

At this point you are ready to install the new door. The installation procedure is slightly different, depending on whether you're installing a retrofit style frame or a replacement frame. We will discuss both procedures next week.

How to find a contractor

The internet revolution has changed practically every industry. Home improvement wasn’t spared either. (In a good sense, that is).

Going through your local Yellow Pages book now seems to be quiet outdated. Instead, the internet now offers a multitude of opportunities of finding a

contractor to take care of your repair and home improvement needs.

First of, there are many online telephone directories which offer generic information such as company name, address, and phone number. Such sites are usually very easy to use and let the user select a detailed field of contractor service that they need. Furthermore, the users may use the ZIP code option and have the site show only the contractors that are located within a certain mileage from their home. While online yellow pages are easy to use, they don’t provide any information about the company itself.

There are also websites that actually “pre-screen” contractors, making sure that they are licensed and insured. The ease in this case is that you type in your project details and information and have the site do all the work. The minus is that these sites sell the information you give them to contractors and depending on how many such sales they make, you may end up getting phone calls from more contractors than you wish to talk to.

The last, but not least popular methods of finding contractors are contractor directories. Contractor directories enables contractors to post their own business description, capitalizing on their expertise and users leave feedback on their experience with the contractors, serving as a recommendation or a warning for further dealings with the contractor.

All of the above methods are good in some sense. However, it is the consumers’ responsibility to make sure that he/she isn’t being serviced by someone who will defraud them or damage their property. After all it’s always possible to pay to be included into websites and have multiple accounts to leave yourself a good feedback.

If you are looking for a contractor online, make sure to do some due diligence. Go to your local state or city website and check if the contractor indeed has a valid license number. Your local Better Business Bureau should be good places to check if any complains have been filed. Finally, talk to the contractor yourself. Don’t be shy about asking for references and do check them out. Discuss your project as detailed as possible. Make sure that you’re both agree on a date when the project will be completed and put it in a contract. The reason is that you don’t want the contractor to stop working on your project if he gets a more profitable gig. As for the payment, don’t pay upfront. Break it up into a few payments, one being a deposit and others should be paid upon completion of certain parts of the project.

Always remember, it’s your money and your house. If you’re paying someone to work for you, you have to make sure that you’re getting your money worth.

The value of a shovel

I grew up in Florida. I loved my childhood years, and not just because I lived three miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Rather, I loved my childhood because it was quite a normal childhood. I went to school and mostly hated it. I had a ton of friends that I loved to play with for hours and hours on end. My family was great and we made it to the beach as often as we could make time for it. My life seemed perfect, and I was quite sure that it would stay that way. I went to college in Florida and just assumed that I'd always live there. Life has a way of giving us reality checks however. I searched for jobs and found one in Minneapolis, Minneasota. I moved there ignorantly and quickly learned the value of a shovel.

I'll be honest. The only shovel I had encountered prior to my move to Minneapolis was a small one that my siblings and I used to make sandle castles on the beach. It had snowed a few times during my growing up years, but never enough to warrant the use of a shovel. So my transition to Minneapolis went smoothly until October hit and the snow began falling. It began falling and didn't stop falling until nearly April. I was warned by a new friend to buy a shovel when the first snow fell so fortunately I was prepared with my tool of choice to battle the winter snows.

I quickly learned the value of a shovel. I learned that a shovel has value because it does something very necessary when there is a pileup of snow or ice: it allows someone to remove that snow or ice and keep on living. I was thinking of the value of the shovel and about how a shovel is way more valuable to people in Minneapolis than it is to a resident of Florida. Most residents of Florida will never have use for a shovel, and therefore, they care little about whether they own a shovel or not.

That is a crazy thing about life and about humans assign value. It seems like we assign value to people and things based on their purpose in our life and based on what they can do for us. Don't we? As much as we'd like to claim that we are fully altruistic, isn't it true that we only appreciate a shovel, a medical doctor or even our own mother only when we need that thing to come through for us and do something?

I guess I learned a lot about myself and about the world upon moving to Minneapolis. I learned more than just how to use a shovel.

Patchouli candles setting the standard for scented candles

Patchouli candles help fill the room with the scent of the candles. Unlike other scented candles, you do not have to be seated next to the candle to enjoy the scent or only get a whiff of it after you blow out the flame. The scent of cloves, gingerbread or other homemade baked goods from Patchouli candles really enhances the atmosphere of a kitchen. You can also have a sweet earthy fragrance in Patchouli candles, which even males enjoy having around them.

The main fragrance of Patchouli candles comes from the essential oil of the Patchouli plant. This plant is native to Asia and has a powerful mossy, musty fragrance. A Patchouli candle also combines the scents of other essential oils, so that you have a wide variety of fragrances to choose from. For example, clove and Patchouli Yankee candles help every room of the house to have a scent that all will enjoy. In addition, these Yankee candles are therapeutic in the aromatherapy of the essential oils.

A clove and Patchouli Yankee candle has a very soothing scent. This scent is just as popular today as it was with the love child population of the 1960’s. Lighting a Patchouli candle will help to calm your nerves after a stressful day at work. Patchouli candles work well in the bathroom where you can soak in the tub and breathe in the heavenly scent. The essential oil of the Patchouli plant is thought to get better as it ages and this is what you get when you purchase one of these clove and Patchouli Yankee candles.

Patchouli candles are available as votive candles, as well as tapered and pillar candles. Some of the scents you can get in addition to clove and Patchouli candles include ginger, apricot and lemon grass. The scent of a Patchouli candle will help you get back to nature as you bask in the aroma. The dark color Demeter Patchouli Yankee candle is a blend of orange and Patchouli scents. Some of the pillar candles in clove and Patchouli candles can burn for as long as 130 hours, but you can also have the smaller candles that burn out much faster.

You can also make your own Patchouli candles if you make candles at home. Simply adding a few drops of the Patchouli oil will help you get the scented candles that you want. Pour the wax into jars for jar candles or make them in any shape that you wish. However, if you are not into candlemaking, the easiest way to get the clove and Patchouli candle that you want is to order it from the Yankee Candle Company. Choose from the wide array of Patchouli candles available. Once you purchase one Patchouli candle, you will be hooked on the scent and will definitely be back for more.

Superb beds to create a truly homey bedroom

Beds are plainly the first furnishing one should have in a bed room. Beds are purchasable in different sizes. There are twin, full, king, and queen size beds. With the numerous sizes, one does not have to be controlled in determining the exact type of bed for their room. Beds are also made either of fine-grade wood or alloy.

Since it is the feature of the bedroom, beds must be given decent importance and decoration. You want to dress it up with the best and most dashing cloth, since it is the most salient thing that you will see when you move into the bedroom.

One of the more frequent items owners put in to emphasize their beds is the bed cloth. Bed linens put a feeling of quality and class in any sort of bed. Bed linens can be developed out of cotton, silk, polyester, and linen which is considered the most expensive. Linen sheets are effective for hot climates because they tend to cool, and they can also last for a long time. On the other hand cotton sheets are good for any type of season, and they are considered a toughened fabric. These sheets should be washed through machines on a warm setting, bleached only using non chlorinated bleach as specified by washing instructions. Vintage linens then must be hand washed in warm water using mild soap.

You should also consider the placement of the bed in your room. Situate the bed against the middle part of the wall, or opposite the entrance to the room. This makes the headboard the focal point of the room once one enters the room. If you cannot place the bed against the middle portion of the wall, then place it on the part of the wall which is sufficiently extended and spacious to contain the bed.

There are also limitations in placing the bed. You cannot just place it anywhere you wish. Specifically, you cannot place the bed under a window, especially if the window will be opened frequently. A bed under two windows is more feasible.

To complement the look of the bed, you can put some essential pieces of bedroom furniture such as dressers, cabinets, and night stands. Other bedrooms host chairs, loveseats, and benches where one can place extra linen and clothes, and of course, provide a nice place for guests to sit.

In choosing a bed, avoid shopping online as much as possible. You need to try the bed yourself in order to appreciate how it feels lying on it. One of the best ways to determine the right texture of the bed is to place a hand on your back and try to move it while lying. If the hand can move easily then it means the bed is too hard. If you are having a difficult time moving your hand, the bed is soft. If your hand can move with little resistance then the bed is good enough for your comfort.

In buying a bed, do not hesitate to spend. You need to pay more in order to have a more quality item. People tend to be tightfisted on buying bedroom furniture and accessories, believing that they can settle on less expensive materials. But in reality what they are getting is a poor quality bed. So if you have some space in your budget to afford another thousand of dollars or two, then do so! You will be benefiting from a more durable and stylish bed in the long run.

You also have to take into consideration the space that the bed will take up in the room. Beds should not eat half of the bedroom. The bed's size, for one, should be big enough to take substantial space in the room. It should not be oversized though for the room since it could take space more than the room can offer, leaving you with little space to add other essential furniture like drawers, writing desks, and night stands.

Weathervane ornaments- an informative article on the different types of weathervane ornaments

A weathervane is a historic outdoor home accessory which embellishes rooftops all over the world. There are many different kinds of weathervanes which were created many, many years ago. These weathervanes can display many different kinds of ornaments as well.

ARROW AND SCROLL WEATHERVANE ORNAMENTS - These ornaments are a basic arrow ornament, a point and fletching attached to a horizontal tube. Sometimes the term "arrow" and the term "scroll" are interchangeable. This depends on the type of fletching, whether there is a point on it and what type of point it is, how intricate the details are, and whether the design contains any actual wrought scrolls.

BANNER AND BANNERET WEATHERVANE ORNAMENTS - These ornaments are derived from medieval pennants and flags, the basic parts of this particular ornament are the points in front and a flat area in the back. Though the terms "banner" and "banneret" also seem to be interchangeable, a banner usually has an area large enough for a date or monogram to be pierced (cut out) or applied to the ornament, while a banneret has an area which might be large but is mainly decorative.

SILHOUETTE WEATHERVANE ORNAMENTS - This style ornament has also been in use for many, many years. In Europe, businesses and guilds would display their specialty using this type of vane ornament. In the old and new worlds, many farmers would carve a simple figure into a piece of wood and use this as a wind indicator on their barns. After 1900, the silhouette weathervane became very popular again, and often displayed fables, sporting events or themes.

SWELL-BODIED WEATHERVANE ORNAMENTS - This is the weathervane ornament which is most closely associated with the American weather vane makers. Molds are created from hammered copper for these ornaments. The molds are then trimmed and soldered together into a hollow form which is a few inches thick. This type of vane can also be formed freehand.

FULL-BODIED WEATHERVANE ORNAMENTS - These ornaments are a 3-dimensional representation of a particular subject.

Primer of bathroom remodeling

Bathrooms interiors tend to be under-budgeted as compared to rest

of the home. Doing bathroom area gets some of us to think why spend so much, when we spend so little time in the bathroom. We all know it’s not true and a good bathroom area feels as terrific as rest of the home. Lets focus on a few areas that allow you estimate costs, without going bankrupt…

Now lets get into areas demanding minute attention. To avoid space constraints, you can work on exploiting whatever space you have. Start with blank corners and wasted space. For instance, you may want to make use of an idle wall sneaking

at you at odd times. Turn it into a showcase/cabinet to use/display. Use lighting accents to highlight areas of display (why cant a bathroom have its showcase!) and use shelves to stack your toiletries. You can also green up corners besides your toilet seat with interior plants. Get creative. Hang creative pieces from over the toilet, or some nice mirror work to create an illusion of space. Invest in showers, gadgets, mirrors, dressers and vanities for you will be happy with it some years down the line. Bathroom furniture needs to be cozy and relaxing. Choose from a range that goes with the overall look and appeal.

In reality individual bathroom site alone can determine how can play with space and make the best of it, but use creative tools to add a feeling of space then add textures, drapery and right lighting. Even contemporary interiors look promising. Here are few cool essentials I find up to the mark….

The Crystal Shower Enclosure makes a versatile corral with safe ј-inch tempered glass door along with fiberglass reinforced

acrylic & steel. Equipped with secure magnetic latches, the doors open effortlessly on integrated hinges. The visible fixtures are in chromed finish, and the door is reversible allowing left/right opening. Designed to fix against tiled walls, its available in three sizes. And, I think it’s worth investing in a shower case…

The Destiny Shower Enclosure is equally appealing and it allows you to install the glass on custom tiled trays, and for

streamlined installation, it can be combined with optional tray. Frame finish is available in Chrome/White/Brushed Aluminum.

The aluminum in the shower door is durable and resistant to water damage.

If you have a shower enclosure installed, it makes sense investing in a convenient shower column. I like the Camilla Shower Column with its anodized aluminum body in satin finish. Equipped with six adjustable body jets and multifunctional 5" hand shower and holder. The best practical part, it can be easily installed back-to-wall or in a corner..

Lighting can play an important role in bathrooms;poorly lit areas only make the bathroom appear dull & gray. Work on areas you need light, like on top of the mirror, seating area and near the shower. The market is flooded with fancy lights, I probed and found a few, and one of them deserves mention—the Lara Bathroom Sink Lighting in ceramic with its unique pattern, UL approved for damp areas, great for reducing eye fatigue by hiding bulbs that are normally exposed.

Coming to our best focus—vanities-- check out Enzo Ceramic Vanity. Its rather sophisticated and I fell for its all-around appeal. It offers incredible storage room and the choice of double/single sink. Its actually decent with a combo of wood, ceramic and metal…also offers finish choices…

Another stunner makes it here—the Rocco Ceramic Vanity. Great for big spaces, what I like is the immense storage space it comes with! On cards is under-mount white porcelain sink with overflow, generous storage cabinet and drawers, water resistant polyurethane finish & optional matching mirror and four different configurations of main and side cabinet…overall, a unit that takes care of all….

Modern vanities have been making a boom too and need to be highlighted. The Integrato Square Glass Bathroom Vanity is a beauty in clear glass, creating an illusion of space again, great for medium sized bath areas. Equipped with towel bar, faucet holes, I-trap & pop-up drain assembly, its really rocking stuff for bathrooms…

If you have great hardware for bathroom but are looking for some stylish faucets to do with the changed interiors—check out the Frame Single lever Tall Faucet.

Lastly, don’t overdo the interiors…let some space breathe in there….use individual pieces that add a personal touch and work on areas that are ignored…after all, all the work makes it worth at the end of the day…
