Visiting with the pediatrician what to expect

In the first year of your baby’s life, you will be visiting your pediatrician about every other month, for well check ups and immunizations. Here’s a rundown of how those visits go, and approximately how often you’ll need to visit.

Two week visit

Some doctors schedule a visit earlier than two weeks, but most pediatricians begin at the two week mark. Your baby’s weight, length and head circumference will be measured, and you can expect this at every well baby checkup during this first year. They will also do a general exam and check the baby’s fontanel. One thing the doctor particularly interested in at this checkup is baby’s weight gain. Your baby will typically lose some weight right after birth, so at this checkup the doctor will want to ensure that baby is gaining back the lost weight. They will also ask about eating habits, how often the baby is producing wet and dirty diapers, and about how the baby is sleeping.

One month visit

This visit will be largely the same as the previous visit, focusing on baby’s development, and on yours and baby’s adjustment at home.

Two month visit

Baby will be checked again, and immunizations will usually start at the two month mark. The first dose of the DPT – (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) vaccine is usually administered at this visit. For more information about when immunizations are administered, see the chapter on this subject.

From this point on, you can expect well baby visits every other month, until your baby is a year old. There will routine physical exams, and questions about your baby’s development. For the first year of life, the baby will receive immunizations at nearly every visit. These visits are not only important opportunities for the doctor to check on your baby’s progress, but are also opportunities for you to ask questions and gain reassurance about how things are going, so take advantage. For instance, if you are concerned that your child has not reached a development milestone, these visits are a good time to discuss this with your doctor. Your doctor will also be looking for these development milestones, and will alert you if there is an issue. It’s helpful to write your questions down as you think of them, so you don’t forget.

In addition, be sure to discuss your doctor’s preferences on calling when your child is sick. For example, is there a 24 hour on-call nursing service for questions? Or, is the on call only for emergencies. Your relationship with your pediatrician is critical to maintaining your child’s health and your peace of mind. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, and call on your doctor as often as needed to ensure your comfort.

Beer and fitness - can you drink beer and stay fit

This week I was asked an interesting question concerning drinking beer and exercising. It seems that a former Navy Radioman has developed quite a gut since retiring, and was curious about whether he should give up his beer to lose weight? Not only does the gentleman enjoy drinking about 2-4 beers daily, he also has quit exercising. Moderate beer consumption is actually healthy, so I set out to define "moderate" as well as educate on the basics of caloric intake and caloric expenditure. The radioman is not suffering from a beer belly but an INACTIVITY BELLY! Yes, you can still drink beer and be very fit.

Over 90 million Americans enjoy drinking beer! Drinking moderately has been proven by many doctors, as well as the New England Journal of Medicine, to be a healthy component of longevity. In fact, moderate consumption of alcohol, including beer, has been proven to reduce the effects of high cholesterol, heart disease, some forms of cancer and even impotence.

Anything done in excess is naturally unhealthy. "Moderation" is defined by most doctors as 1-2 beers a day. And NO, you cannot save up through the week and catch up on the weekend drinking 10-12 beers in an evening. That is NOT moderation. There is even a US Beer Drinking Team that links beer enthusiasts and promotes moderation, responsibility, and healthy living.

The average can of beer has over 100 calories. Drinking one beer is equivalent to eating a chocolate chip cookie. Drinking four is equal to eating a Big Mac Hamburger. In order to lose weight, you have to burn off these extra calories as well as the other calories that you ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even the lightest of beers has the empty calories of alcohol, which is the cause of poor health if done in excess and without a regular exercise routine. Unfortunately, too many Americans live under one of the worst stereotypes placed on a human being - the BEER BELLY, or as I call it, the inactivity belly.

The "inactivity" belly is caused by excess calories in your diet AND lack of activity to burn the extra calories. The solution to lose your beer belly is as simple as calories in must be less than calories out (or expended through exercise).

Calories IN < Calories Out (burned) = Weight Loss

If you can add exercise into your schedule for 20-30 minutes a day, your daily consumption of alcohol (1-2 beers) will not have any additional impact on your gut. To lose your beer belly, you REALLY have to watch your food and beverage intake, drink 2-4 quarts of water a day, AND fit fitness into your world. THERE IS NO OTHER HEALTHY ANSWER! The exercise and workout ideas below can get you started on your calorie burning plan:

Workout #1: This is a great full body calorie burner:

Repeat 3-5 times

Walk, run or bike 5:00

Squats - 20

Pushups - 10-20

Situps or Crunches - 20

Workout #2: Swimming and elliptical gliding (cross country skiing) burn the most calories per hour (This workout can burn up to 1000 calories in one hour!)

Swim 20-30 minutes non-stop

Elliptical Glide 20-30 minutes

There is no reason why you cannot have "six pack abs" and still drink a six pack a week. Once again, excessive beer drinking is not recommended by anyone in the health industry. If you simply enjoy drinking beer and are serious about your health, moderation in drinking alcohol and eating foods high in calories, combined with habitual daily exercise is your ticket to reaching your goals. I now have a series of Workout plans that cater to all levels of fitness and can help you with developing a healthy diet with proper food choices - the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced 45 Day plans sold on StewSmith. com Store. For those who are into strength training, I have recently developed a weight training plan called "Beer and Barbells" that allows you to use the additional calories of beer, or milk shakes if you are under 21, to gain mass and strength.

Adding exercise daily and observing the dietary recommendations in these eBooks will enable you to be the person you were yesterday without changing who you are today.

Casinos ou culture singapour attire les touristes

:

Ainsi, Singapour se "dйmocratise" et se modernise avec l'ouverture de clubs et de cinй-clubs oщ l'on peut voir le film new zйlandais Lord of the Rings.

Considerations for psychoactive medications

A lot of older people in America who live alone usually take medications to deal with loneliness. People who are overworked or overstressed, and people who have gone through depression also use these medications which supposedly eliminate the suffering caused by psychological conditions. These medications are called psychoactive medications.

Medications that effect mood or behavior are known as “psychoactive.” This includes those medications that are given for non-behavioral reasons. For instance, some of the medications used for high blood pressure, and some medications sold over-the-counter for colds and flu, can be psychoactive for a few of us. Psychoactive medications are drugs that, when prescribed and used prudently, can reduce or eliminate the suffering caused by psychological conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, depression, psychosis, and bipolar affective disorder.

Many people use psychoactive medications, with or without prescriptions, to cope with the problems of their daily lives. However, psychoactive medications should generally prescribed by physicians. One of the most common conditions for which psychoactive medications are prescribed are sleep disorders.

When a person has trouble sleeping, he or she may be experiencing insomnia. Both anxiety and depression can cause insomnia, among many others. When this specific cause is known and treated, the person's sleep patterns generally return to normal. When insomnia gets persistent, sleeping pills may be appropriate. Although a person can sleep while under these medications, the sleep induced by the drug will not be the same as that of natural sleep since the drug suppresses brain activity.

Prescribing psychoactive medications for children and adolescents requires the judgment of a physician, such as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, with training and qualifications in the use of these medications in this age group. Certainly, any consideration of such medication in a child or infant below the age of five should be very carefully evaluated by a clinician with special training and experience with this very young age group. Any child or adolescent for whom medication is a consideration requires an evaluation of the psychiatric disorder, including the symptoms, and any other medical conditions, family and psychosocial assessment and school records.

Moreover, rest homes have become a major component of the health care system for frail elderly persons and psychiatric patients. Although psychoactive medications are frequently used in rest homes, there is little detailed information about the extent of such use, its supervision, or its effects. In a survey of a random sample of 55 rest homes in Massachusetts, it was found that 55 percent of the residents were taking at least one psychoactive medication. Antipsychotic medications were being administered to 39 percent; of these, 18 percent were receiving two or more such drugs.

The effects of psychoactive medications vary with their chemical composition, the doses in which they are taken, and the sensitivity of the person taking them. Taking other psychoactive substances in combination with psychoactive medications can be dangerous, especially because some of the interactions among these substances are not well understood.

It is best to remember that psychoactive medications should not be taken from old prescriptions without seeing the doctor first. These drugs should not be given to anyone else as prescription is individualized and personal.

Coping with job stress and heart disease

Everyone knows that job stress has an obvious negative implication on health, specifically, the cardiovascular system. While various studies have been conducted and validated to establish that job strain increases the risk of a first coronary heart disease, little was known about the connection between stressful jobs and recurrent coronary heart disease.

Recently, however, scientists have decided to bring their research to the next level by studying nearly a thousand men and women who returned to work after having a heart attack. Observations were made for the first six weeks after their return to their jobs, and the again two years later. Early findings show that the people who return to a chronically stressful job after a heart attack are twice as likely to experience another heart attack than those with stress-free jobs. Job strain, as specifically defined by researchers, involves high psychological demands with low decision control. If the stress of the job doesn't change upon return to work, there is a much higher risk of having another heart attack or developing angina and coronary heart disease.

A heart attack occurs when a blood vessel that supplies blood to the heart becomes blocked. Due to the lack of blood flow, it results in a permanent damage to the heart. Blood vessels are blocked by advancing atherosclerotic plaque lesions, a sudden formation of a blood clot, or from the spasming of a coronary artery, which supplies blood to the heart.

Many people have the notion that a heart attack is caused by a slow, progressive build-up of plaque. To think that a blood vessel takes a lifetime to become completely clogged is simply not true for most cases of heart attacks. When an unstable, atherosclerotic plaque lesion, filled with cholesterol and fat, suddenly breaks apart, thus forming an open wound within the artery wall, a heart attack occurs. Blood platelets and clotting proteins rush to the wound and form a clot, called a thrombus. In a matter of moments, the clot can enlarge and may cause obstruction of blood flow to the heart with resultant angina (chest pain). If the blood flow becomes completely obstructed, a heart attack ensues.

In addition to the evidence linking workplace stress and heart disease was another study on the occurrence of cardiac events and heart attacks on Monday than any other day of the week. A study carried out by Japan's Tokyo Women's Medical University and published in the American Journal of Hypertension showed that many workers suffer a significant increase in blood pressure as they return to the office after the weekend.

High blood pressure is associated with a greater risk of suffering a heart attack or a stroke, and the results could help to explain why there are more heart attacks on Mondays than at any other time of the week.

While workplace stress can have a negative impact on your health, marriage, on the other hand, can be good for your health. However, it is important to be more specific as a bad marriage can increase the risk of heart disease as compared with married couples who are having great relationships.

Are allergy shots effective

Itchy, watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing are all common symptoms which a vast majority of us experience as allergy symptoms at specific times throughout the year. Many individuals do everything in their power to avoid allergies including changing their diets, staying indoors or taking vitamin supplements. These may contribute to fighting allergies, but there is another effective way to do so. Immunotherapy or allergy shots are gaining popularity. Getting an allergy shot can be scary for some people, so we thought it would be best to fully explain allergy shots and address some common concerns.

How Do They Work?

Allergy shots contain a small amount of the substance which you are allergic to. If you are allergic to pollen, a small amount of pollen would be added to the shot. The amount is small enough so that it does not cause you to suffering from allergy symptoms, but enough so that you body gets used to fighting the allergen. Therefore, the next time your body comes in contact with that substance, it will be familiar with fighting it off and you will most likely not suffer from allergies.

Are Allergy Shots Safe For Everyone?

Although most people will have positive results from allergy shots, they are not right for everyone. Allergy shots are not recommended for individuals suffering from severe heart problems, asthma or other respiratory problems. Also, children under the age of 5 should not be exposed to allergy shots for safety reasons.

What Is The Procedure?

Once you have decided that you would like to get allergy shots, you will receive a shot 1 or 2 times a week for about 6 months. Afterwards, your maintenance shots will require you to get one shot a month, year round for about 3-5 years. Once you have received allergy shots on a regular basis for a couple years, you can discuss it with your doctor and they may tell you its okay to stop getting them at that point.

What Are The Side Effects?

Although allergy shots are effective for many individuals in eliminating allergy symptoms, certain individuals may experience some harmful side effects. Some people may experience feelings of shock when the shot is initially injected, others may feel light-headed or nauseated. For this reason, doctors are required to keep patients in their office for at least 20 minutes after receiving each shot in order to ensure the patient’s safety.

Some people swear by allergy shots while others criticize the effects or claim they don’t work effectively. If you are considering receiving immunotherapy, contact your doctor to discuss. Your doctor will give you more insight in order for you to determine if this is something you really want to do.

Treating nicotine addiction with patches

For smokers, quitting smoking is one of the hardest thing to do. It is a compulsive addiction that may have an impact on on one's social behavior. The substance that makes cigarettes addictive is called nicotine. Nicotine, the active component of cigarettes is a stimulant drug that is distributed in the body through the blood stream. This substance may stimulate the brain and provides a rush of adrenaline, a hormone that acts as neurotransmitter. A rush of adrenaline may provide a shot of energy and give sensations of being “high.”

When the nicotine levels of regular smokers falter, they usually experience withdrawal symptoms that may include restlessness, irritability, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and craving for another smoke. These smokers need to smoke regularly in order to feel normal, a condition that may lead to addiction and quitting smoking becomes more difficult. The amount of nicotine that enters a user's bloodstream depends on many factors. Tobacco products play a key role in this development which involves the amount of cigarettes the user consumes. The addictive qualities of nicotine is one of the reasons why quitting smoking is very difficult for many individuals.

Individuals who have a hard time cutting the habit may use products that are designed to relieve nicotine addiction. The use of nicotine patches have become a popular method for individuals who are having a hard time quitting smoking. This patch is a self-adhesive, over-the-counter medication which is attached to skin and works by releasing adequate amounts of nicotine to the skin. It is often applied on the upper arm and shoulder but can applied to any part of the body between the waist and neck. These patches are replaced every 24 hours and should not be put in the same place more than once in a span of two weeks to minimize skin irritation.

However, like other forms of medication, nicotine patches may bring side-effects while under medication. This patch may cause itching and irritation to the area where it is applied. Other side effects may include dizziness, high blood pressure, itching and burning sensation at the applied area, nausea, and redness of skin. Individuals who decide to use this product should be aware of any side effects that may take place. This patch may cause heart ailments for individuals with certain medical conditions. Health professionals should be consulted before using this patch to explain side effects and reactions that may develop.

In general, the use of nicotine patches have become a very popular nicotine replacement product for many individuals who want to quit smoking. It is a safe alternative to smoking and is scientifically proven to decrease smoker's dependency on nicotine. Nicotine patches cannot do all the work, the best and effective way to quit smoking involves determination, discipline, and commitment to stop the habit permanently. Using nicotine patches can help smokers cut the habit by making them more comfortable with a life without cigarettes.

60 or adults are obese permanent solution

More than 60 percent of adults in the United States are overweight or obese, and obese persons are more likely to be ill than those who are not. Obesity presents challenges to physicians and patients and also has a negative impact on health status. Some patients who are obese may delay medical care because of concerns about disparagement by physicians and health care staff, or fear of being weighed. Simple accommodations, such as providing large-sized examination gowns and armless chairs, as well as weighing patients in a private area, may make the medical setting more accessible and more comfortable for obese patients.

Children Can be Obese too!

Children can also be obese! And it is not just baby fat we are talking about here. Children who have migraines are more likely to be overweight than the general population, while overweight kids suffer more disabling migraines than their normal-weight peers, a new study shows.

Americans have become considerably more obese over the past 25 years. This increase is primarily the result of consuming more calories. The increase in food consumption is itself the result of technological innovations which made it possible for food to be mass prepared far from the point of consumption, and consumed with lower time costs of preparation and cleaning. Price changes are normally beneficial, but may not be if people have self-control problems.

Another government study published in October, 2002 indicates that thirty-one percent of the American public is obese. It further suggested that fifteen percent of young people between 6 and 19 are seriously overweight. Even ten percent of toddlers between 2 and 5 are seriously overweight. The study appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Is there a Permanent Solution for Obesity?

But lucky for us all, advances in the medical world has made it possible for obese people to lose that weight and live a normal life! What is this method? It is called the gastric bypass surgery. Gastric bypass surgery has worked for thousands of people all over the world and has given lasting effect on weight loss! We urge you to find out more about the gastric bypass surgery method as a permanent way in losing tens of kilos and keeping them off forever!

Sexual health and society

The Western media is obsessed with sex. There is little left to the imagination on most prime time TV shows on the major networks. The latest seasons for the major US networks, along with basic and pay cable channels, are filled with the most graphic, most exploratory displays of sex and sexuality since the inception of TV. However, it isn't just the Western media that seems to enjoy delving into the seedy underbelly of intimacy, as there are more studies being conducted on sexual health than there are on any other aspects of medical science. With the possible exception of mental health and psychology, at least.

On one hand, there is the near-constant confusion people have over the sexual health and behavior of younger generations. Millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent every year to analyze whether or not government-sponsored sex education programs in schools are effective. There are constant debates on the virtues of abstinence over just handing out condoms on street corners, with neither side really having a permanent grip on the issue or gaining an the upper hand on sex-related social problems such as venereal disease, overpopulation, and teenage pregnancies. In some areas, the studies about teen sexual health and behavior are taking a drastic turn in the form of propositions to enforce control over such activities. Thankfully, most of these ideas have been quickly shot down, as most sensible people are able to see them as tactics that loudly echo Orwell's “1984.”

There are learned, educated professionals who are now examining all the sex on TV. While most of them are quite content to remain within the domain of criticism of the general aspects of TV reviewing, some of them are digging deeper into the racy scenes. In simpler terms, while most reviewers are focusing on things like level of cinematography, the beauty of the script, and the quality of the acting, others are paying more attention to the more...physical scenes. The fact that most of them describe said scenes as vapid and devoid or artistic value or life does not really balance things out. While it is arguably wrong to sell a show based solely on how much skin is shown and who goes to bed with who, it is also wrong to criticize a mediocre show as a bad one solely because the more intimate scenes aren't that “refined.”

Of course, one cannot discount the on-going argument on whether or not certain sexual behaviors can be considered a sign of damaged mental health. Certainly, some behaviors are less conventional than others and may be a sign of some sort of milds psychiatric disorder, but very rarely is aberrant sexual behavior itself directly linked to a mental disorder without other disorders being present. Nymphomania and satyriasis are old, archaic terms that have been removed from the latest psychological and psychiatric dictionaries, which can be taken as a sign that people are no longer equating sexual behavior with mental illness. However, the replacement term, “hypersexuality,” has a definition that is just as vague and subjective as the words that it replaced.

Then there are the studies being conducted on matters like sexual impotence, the elusive female orgasm, and a thousand other things directly related to the act of genital copulation itself. Some organizations have estimated that anywhere from 10 to 25% of all research funding in the medical field ends up being spent on sex-related research. This is a generous estimate, but the sad truth is that a large chunk of funding does end up going to that area, and not just because “sex sells.”

How lamb and pears can help your food allergy

Lamb and pears may appear to be a strange combination, but the reason they are chosen as part of a food allergy diet is because they are rarely indicated in allergies and are therefore relatively safe foods for most people with a food allergy to eat.

Often the best way to treat a food allergy is to avoid the food that causes the allergy altogether so a period of exclusion gives your body a chance to tell you which foods are making you ill and whether you react to one food or many foods.

An exclusion diet consists of eliminating one or more foods completely from the diet for a given period of time and then reintroducing foods one at a time to check for adverse reactions.

If you are committed to the process your efforts will be rewarded with the food, or foods, that cause your problems and you can be free of the symptoms and distress a food allergy may cause.

The principle of the lamb and pears food allergies diet is that you only eat these two foods, lamb, pears and bottled or filtered water, for five to seven days. During the course of the food allergy diet you can begin reintroducing other foods one at a time and gauge whether they cause a food allergy reaction.

As the lamb and pears food allergy diet is so restrictive it gives a chance for your system to clear and reveal the hidden allergies which are causing illness or allergy symptoms.

Keep a food diary to track your progress and note down how you are feeling during the diet.

If your food allergy symptoms disappear during the diet you can try and reintroduce suspect foods to see if they cause you a reaction. Keep a note of how you feel before and after eating the different foods you reintroduce.

Any food that does cause a reaction needs to be kept out of your diet and placed on your "foods to avoid list". If a food passes your test successfully you can place it on your "foods you can eat" list.

For best results take each step slowly; reintroduce foods slowly, perhaps one food per meal and if possible one food per day.

A variation of the lamb and pears food allergy diet allows you to eat turkey and peaches, or rabbit and raspberries.

Important note! A two food diet is very restrictive and should never be followed without close supervision or for an extended period of time. Severe exclusion diets can compromise your nutritional well-being so pregnant women, children, diabetics, epileptics, anyone with emotional disturbances or anyone with a serious illness should seek professional advice before embarking on any type of food allergy treatment or exclusion diet.

Loneliness makes people unhappy and often leads to serious cases of anxiety

It was the biggest story to break in 2007. The gripping violence glued thousands on their t. v. screens. Cold and calculated, a South Korean student went on a rampage, killing 30 more people till he also died with his own weapon. atching the news cuts through the heart and sent shivers down the spine of an entire nation that witnessed the tragedy at Virginia Tech, and years earlier, the gruesome shootings at Columbine.

A profile of the gunman based from the numerous interviews with his relatives, professors and fellow students indicates that the gunmen looks like suffering from severe emotional distress, having suicidal thoughts, projects depressed moods and socially isolated. Based on recent studies, a person who is constantly isolated is extremely lonely.

Loneliness is the absence of having friends, but having many friends may not guarantee happiness, however, it plays an important role in a person's mental health according to some psychologist. Having good social relationships makes a person more extroverted and less neurotic. The lack of social networks is perhaps, one reason why most people have social phobia.

Social Anxiety Disorder is the intense and persistent fear of being the company of strangers, fear of scrutiny by others in a social situation, This is often left undiagnosed. A person afflicted with this disorder always anticipates embarrassment and humiliation. Even simple things like public speaking, eating and drinking in public places can cause great anxiety.

The intense anxiety may lead to avoidance behavior. It gives a person so much discomfort. Social Anxiety Disorder is different from shyness. A shy person may feel very uneasy around others but might not experience anxiety. Anxiety usually comes during or before a feared situation. A feared situation can cause a person so much distress and it might interfere with school, work or any social event.

For instance, a child may have a poor school performance due to classroom activities that require constant interaction with the his/her classmates. Social anxiety is a barrier that prevents people from having meaningful relationships. There is a saying that “no man is an island,” yet people's exaggerated fears have hampered their own social development.

To control anxiety attacks, you must be clinically diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist. Many cases of social anxiety disorders closely resemble Avoidance Personality Disorder. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent the negative effects of these disorders. Treatment of this anxiety can undertaken with the use of different medications such as benzondiazepines, beta-blockers and antidepressants.

Aside from seeking treatment, one of the best ways to combat social phobia and loneliness is by joining a support group. Support groups are a big help where people with sever anxieties can learn different techniques to cope with their disorder. But a combination of medication and therapy can go a long, long way. Therapy may be focused on the management of anger and improvement of self-esteem and social skills. In combination with therapy, anti-anxiety medication may help those suffering from social disorders to lead more normal lives.

Spotting cocaine addiction

Addiction is a nasty word that many people find very difficult to confront. Usually it is because they are addicted or they know or suspect a loved one of being caught in the trap of addiction. It is not always easy to confront things like addiction.

With some people, addiction might take the form of "they have to have their fix now" while others have an urgency to get out and meet with their friends because they're going to get high together. Whichever form of addiction it is, the social addiction or the craving for the drug addiction, it is something that needs to be addressed and resolved with urgency.

Why is cocaine addiction so serious? To give it to you straight, it is a powerfully addictive drug and it can kill! Cocaine is a strong central nervous system stimulant that interferes with the reabsorption process of dopamine, a chemical messenger associated with pleasure and movement. The buildup of dopamine causes continuous stimulation of receiving neurons, which is associated with the euphoria commonly reported by cocaine abusers.

Cocaine addiction cannot be ignored or neglected. Regardless of how cocaine is used or how frequently, a user can experience acute cardiovascular emergencies, such as a heart attack or stroke, which could result in sudden death. Cocaine-related deaths are often a result of cardiac arrest or seizure followed by respiratory arrest.

It is not a drug to be ignored, even if the addict is only using it socially. You never know if you're going to become addicted to it or not. Using cocaine takes many forms, including injecting, snorting or smoking. Smoking and snorting are far the most dangerous ways of using it but that does make any other way of using any less serious. Crack (smoking) has become a major problem in many American cities because it is inexpensive and easily transportable. It is sold in small vials, folding paper, or tinfoil.

Resolving cocaine addiction speedily is of paramount importance if one is to rescue a loved one from its grips and the potential consequences. There are so many solutions out there though so what must you do to find the right answers?

First of all, do not ever allow anyone to give your loved one drugs (meds) to handle the cocaine addiction. Using further drugs to resolve a drug issue is an absolute waste of time and, in fact, is counterproductive because you'll end up with additional dependencies.

The second thing is not to allow anyone to "evaluate" about the reason he got addicted in the first place. This includes even family members. No-one but the addict himself knows the reasons for his addiction, be it the desire to fit in with the crowd or be it an inability to handle a family difficulty.

Full cocaine addiction treatment is not merely just getting the person off the cocaine physically, it includes the person himself finding out for himself why he got addicted in the first place and, using the correct educational tools, to work out what the difficulties were and how to resolve them so that he can get back into the life-stream again and become a valuable member of society and achieve his personal goals.

Recognizing autism symptoms

Autism is considered to be the most serious disorder among Autism Spectrum Disorders. Autism is triggered by neurological dysfunctions, in some cases causing dramatic, irreversible damage in behaviors, social interactions, communication skills and even physical development. Although people who suffer from autism don’t always seem to be different from normal people, the presence of abnormalities is revealed by the way they socially interact, communicate, and learn.

Autism symptoms can usually be spotted during the first years of life. Despite the fact that autistic people share common features of the disorder, it is wrong to generalize the aspects of autism. People with autism, just like normal people, develop unique, distinctive personalities and have different ways of understanding and relating to the world. Furthermore, people with autism sometimes have high, above average IQ’s. Autistic people usually have good mathematical skills and good memory.

People with autism tend to experience emotional problems at different stages of their lives due to their evasive, withdrawing behaviors and they often become depressed. An obvious autism symptom is the predisposition towards stereotype, repetitive behaviors, and the preference for activities that involve maintaining a certain routine. People with autism strongly resist change and they are usually very tidy and organized. They categorize personal objects, maintaining everything in a very strict order. It is thought that autistic people refuse to engage in spontaneous activities due to their poor adaptability to new situations.

The National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities proposes the following autism symptoms in identifying the presence of the disorder:

- poor emphatic skills, inability of understanding and coping with others’ distress;

- inability of relating to other people, lack of interest in other persons; it is a fact that autistic people have behaviors oriented towards the self;

- avoidance of social interactions, refusal of making eye contact, isolation from the external world;

- difficulties in expressing feelings or understanding other people’s emotions;

- poor responsiveness when called by their name, refusal of redirecting their attention towards people when asked to;

- difficulties in expressing their needs and desires;

- repeating ideas within a conversation, incoherent speech;

- unusual reactions to external stimuli like sounds, tastes or smells;

- deterioration of the skills they once possessed.

Children with autism need special care and attention and appropriate treatment in order to minimize the harm caused by their disorder. It is vital to pay attention to autism symptoms when suspecting that a child may be suffering from the disorder. Children with autism better deal with the disorder if they have been diagnosed with autism at an early age.

Adults with autism are able to take care of themselves, especially if they suffer from milder forms of the disorder. They can sometimes be successfully integrated in the society and some autistic people can even handle a job. However, many people with autism have unpredictable behaviors and need to be under the constant care of their families. Autistic people that have more severe forms of the disorder are usually institutionalized and kept under strict monitoring.

Baby boomers ultimate anti- aging concepts 5 radical tips

By Ray Page

Many of us “Baby Boomers” are each beginning to feel our age, and we’re starting to live it too. Every morning, clock radios everywhere announce the start of another day. As a typical boomer rolls out of bed, an old ache, pain, and/or little worry makes its presence known, just like the day before. The same beverage -- coffee, tea, or maybe even caffeinated soda -- is ingested in an attempt to energize the same tired face reflected in the morning mirror.

By the time we hit our 50’s, we may have feelings that our lives are not as they could be. Yes, there are pills, and many varieties of the “quick fix”’ (also called the “Life Makeover”) -- everything from creams to diets and Bo-tox injections, perfect-sounding and easy “fountains of youth,” for ourselves. Let’s face it , most of us are looking for ways to slow the ticking of our biological clocks.

I’m here to tell you that in order to really slow that clock down, we must get “radical” in our approach to controlling our processes; getting radical means that we can, in the words of Star Trek character Jean Luc Picard, “make it so”. We can literally make our own clocks tick more slowly.

Getting radical is a process that occurs within ourselves. First of all, it’s the power of our intentions and the measure of our wills. It’s saying to ourselves -- with conviction -- “I want this to be!” Next, it’s believing, strongly, that we can! When we commit ourselves to these beliefs, we are then capable of achieving many remarkable accomplishments of mind and body. All we have to do is to challenge ourselves and our perceptions of who we are. The five radical tips follow:

1. Firewalking: How does walking on fire relate to youthing? An art that’s been practiced in many cultures for thousands of years, firewalking is about mind/body transformation. Its goal is to” question” the laws of nature. The experience becomes a powerful metaphor for anti-aging -- which I refer to as youthing -- and it’s a very radical way of challenging ourselves to stretch beyond what we think is possible. I have participated in dozens of firewalks, and the experiences taught me more about myself, and about questioning nature’s laws as they applied to me, than I’d ever thought possible. Oh -- and I walked on fire.

2. Breathwork. This is a simple yet profound yogic breathing technique that has a cleansing and healing effect at all levels of our awareness -- physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental. It’s the quickest method available that can aid us in healing from previous traumas, negative belief systems, and unwanted “baggage” that many of us unconsciously carry around with us.

3. Fasting. As I write this, I have just completed a four-day fast. (How could I talk my talk without walking it?) Fasting is perhaps the most powerful tip for youthing. Many of us, especially in the U. S., literally eat ourselves to death. Note: there are many types of fasts and many reasons for fasting. It’s wise to check with your health care practitioner before fasting.

4. Physical Immortality. Now here is an idea whose time has arrived. Let’s imagine this concept: “Life without death is pure life.” When we do this, we’re unraveling our personal death urge, which dwells somewhere inside us in that place where pain, aging, and negativity also dwell. While I realize this is a radical idea, relax. We really don’t have to buy into this idea; in order to let the concept work its magic, we just need to be open to it.

5. Hypnosis. As Deepak Chopra has written in AGELESS BODY TIMELESS MIND: ”Aging seems to be something that’s happening to you, when in fact it is something your body has largely learned to do. It has learned to carry out the programming fed into it by you, the programmer” (Harmony Books, 1993). Hypnotherapy is simple, very effective, and can be fun, depending on its purpose; and whether a hypnotherapy session is done in person or by phone, it sets the stage for stretching beyond set limitations. Hypnosis is the art of placing the conscious self in a state of heightened suggestibility. During this time the unconscious self is very open to change and can literally set aside any limiting beliefs that may have been interfering with one’s ability to change.

It’s a proven fact that our bodies are constantly creating new and healthy cells to replace old and damaged ones, and every new cell gets its “replacing” instructions from the DNA contained in the old cell. So, it stands to reason that if our DNA programs our new cells with the healthiest and youngest information possible as a blueprint for development, the body’s cell memories will change. This process is called “Cell Transformation”. The question arises: Can hypnosis really be a powerful tool to us in order to literally tell our bodies cells to be younger? From my experience, I believe the answer is yes.

My conclusion is that over 14 million hits on Google for “mind/body connection” can’t be wrong. From my own personal experience I am pleased to report that indeed my quest for youth is paying off. Now at the “calendar” age of 55, except for a few silver hairs I both look and feel not much over 35 years young.

Extreme weight- loss plans

Discussions about a woman's health is often too focused on being skinny or being slim. Fortunately, this attention to weight is no longer about vanity, being like Hollywood goddess, or looking like a ramp supermodel. For a good reason, women are now talking about the health implications of being obese or overweight. Normally, women are told to engage in regular physical exercise and control food consumption.

However, many women still struggle with setting aside time for exercise. The demands at work and at home also drive many women to go for every single comfort food they can get their hands on. Being confined to their small cubicles from 9 to 5 every single day makes a gym workout just another demand on their hectic schedules. As simple it may seem, for some women, working out and going on a diet are impossible tasks. Many desperately say that they just don't have the time and just resign themselves to the thought that obesity or becoming overweight is inevitable.

But losing the battle of the bulge need not be every woman's fate. There are now alternatives and innovations in science and medicine that would allow women to lose weight even if they cannot give up their careers or fix their schedules.

Comes in and this is not your average weigh loss diet pill. We are talking about going under the knife...

Liposuction

“Lipo” is for those who have the money to undergo to this extreme measure to loose weight. Usually celebrities take this easy route. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, liposuction has been the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in America since 2003. The procedure involves the identification of parts of the body that are predisposed to easy formation of fatty acids like the abdomen, the arms, and the hips. Liposuction is essentially a surgical technique that involves the insertion of a probing device into the patient's body. The probe is used to liquify the fat before the doctor suctions it out. An outpatient procedure takes an hour and a half to perform. After a procedure, the patient must wear a binding wrap for a number of weeks. A significant amount of medication is required to manage the pain that comes after the operation. However, “Lipo” procedure is only limited to the removal of 10 pounds of fat per operation and, as such, is considered more as a cosmetic procedure rather than a real weight loss program.

Hormone Therapy

Another weight-loss approach involves taking anti-aging medicine. As the body ages, hormone levels go down, the pituitary glands stop producing growth hormones, and one's metabolism slows down too. All this makes weight gain easier and losing weight a greater challenge. The goal of this method is to bring the body's function back to when a woman was still in her 20s—the age when the body is at its peak.

The procedure starts with a series of four tests that include growth hormone faction which tests the state of the pituitary gland; DHEA which checks the testosterone level; the T3T4 that tests the thyroid gland; and a daily morning temperature that is intended for checking the metabolism rate of the individual. Based on the results of these test, a mix of tablets, injections, and creams may be prescribed by the doctor. This procedure is best for people whose hormones are not in tip-top shape. The risk of this therapy are overdose and hyperthyroidism.

Bariatric Surgery

This is recommended for those who suffer from what is called morbid obesity---being overweight by 100 pounds or more. The procedure involves stomach stapling, which is about reducing the size of the stomach so that a patient feels full after a small amount food. The expected result is a decrease in calorie intake and the long-term reduction in weight. The surgeon creates a pouch by stapling across the top of the stomach. Then a section of the small intestine about two to five feet in length is attached to it so that food can bypass the duodenum—the first portion of the intestine. It reduces calorie and fat absorption. This procedure can now be done laparoscopically---with narrow tubes through which a small camera allows for accurate incisions and stitchings. This is best for severely obese people or who are overweight by 100 pounds or more. Aside from the same risk the comes with all major surgeries, death is an added risk in any operation for patients who are seriously overweight. Then, there is also the risk of gastric perforation (tear in the stomach wall) during or after the procedure that might lead to another surgery.

Lipo-Dissolve

Also known as Mesotheraphy, lipo-dissolve is a new treatment specifically designed to eliminate localized pockets of fat in the body such as love handles, underarm flabs, knee flabs, double chin, and eye bags. The procedure entails the injection of Lecithin into the flabby body part in question. Lecithin is naturally made by the body to break down dietary fats, helps maintain lipid balance. The chemical reaction causes the fat to dissolve and be expelled by the body through the lymph glands. Each session last about 30 to 60 minutes and treatments are given once weekly. This is best for people who have lean bodies. The risk of this method is only limited to minor bruising.

Women should always consider their weight loss goals and the pros and cons of undergoing these medical procedures. Getting to one's desired weight and figure need not always be about sweating it out and depriving one's self of food. Sometimes, these shortcuts to weight loss might be the faster, easier alternative to lose excess pounds.
