What is a perfect nose

As Los Angeles plastic surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty, I am frequently asked by my patients to give them a perfect nose. Well, there not one perfect nose that can work for everyone. When looking at pictures of models or celebrities who are considered to have beautiful noses, one can clearly see they all have different noses. It is not necessarily a certain size or shape of the nose that makes it beautiful but rather how well the nose fits with the rest of the face.

However, there are general characteristics of a male and female know that people find attractive. For example, in most women raised tips with a gently (concave) curve of the dorsum results in a feminine and natural appearing nose. The dorsum is the top edge of the nose. Visit my our rhinoplasty before and after section to view such pictures. During nose surgery (rhinoplasty), the hump on the dorsum is gently shaved until a natural appearing curve is achieved. The next step in rhinoplasty is to raise the tip. In women the tip is raised such that the angle between the bottom portion of the nose and upper lip is about 95-100 degrees.

The goals for rhinoplasty in men are slightly different that those in women. In most men a straight (not curved) dorsum is more appropriate. The tip is typically raised less maintaining the angle between the bottom of the nose and upper lip of about 90 degrees. Some men, however, will prefer to have a gently curve and the tip raised higher. So it is important for any rhinoplasty surgeon, to spend enough time with the patient discussing his or her goal of nose surgery, as well as likely outcomes and limitations. In my practice, I meet with patients at least twice before the day of surgery to have these discussions. More information about rhinoplasty and before and after photographs of nose reshaping surgery can be found on our website.

Mommy make-over

Mommy Make-Over

If you're expecting, I'm sure you have a lot on your plate as far as getting ready for the maternity journey and preparing for baby. With all the new changes and adjustments; sometimes "Taking Care of You" takes a back seat.

To help you start "Taking Care of You," you have to evaluate your daily activities. Well, now you ask, "What have I done for myself lately?" Ladies, this is an important question. It turns out many of us are so caught up with taking care of everyone else that we forget to do the little things for ourselves. Beginning something new and fresh for you is always exciting but requires some effort.

If you want to look and feel better while preparing for a new addition to your family, let's start with getting you on the right track with your beauty regiment.

Let's start with your hair: Taking care of your hair, makes a world of difference on how you feel and perceive yourself. If you put your hair up everyday with a scrunchy or clip you really need to STOP. This tragic behavior usually results in falling into a rut.

So, I would reiterate my usual advice on making an appointment with a stylist. If you don't have one, ask around and see which salon or stylist falls into your budget. Remember, you don't have to go to a poshy salon or spend a fortune. There are options and some really talented stylists out there. So, a cute hair cut and some natural looking hi-lites will make you look and feel better. This can easily translate to your "Mommy Makeover." Buy new products for your hair, Maternity Salon offers a complete hair care line especially for moms. Check it out!

Moving onto your skin care, I've come across a lot of great products lately for skin. One great facial cleanser you should use to get rid of makeup at night or morning is called, "St. Ives. Facial Cleanser." Getting into a routine with washing your face before bed and when you wake really helps your pores to stay clean and refreshed. After you wash your face, I suggest using a face cream by "Neutrogena, Oil of Olay, or Dove" look for the specific type of skin you have and use that product.

After two weeks, you will see a huge difference. Remember, if you're going to through some rough dry patch problems you should consult with your doctor about using anything.

Lastly, what about the rest of your body, well I'm a firm believer in using "Palmer's Cocoa Butter" for your belly (to avoid stretch marks) and everywhere else for hydration. After you shower and your skin is still moist is usually the best time to apply. Also, dehydration is a big culprit for bad or dry skin, so remember to drink your water. (Do you ever wonder why you see models or actresses drinking water?. It's to keep their skin looking beautiful!)

Now, onto the fun part, MAKE-UP! In completing your own "Mommy Makeover," choosing great make-up does make a difference. I have to be honest with you and tell you that to look good you don't need a ton of gook on your face. To start your beauty make-up application, you can apply foundation if that's your preference.

There is a really great foundation out made by "Revlon called, Custom Creations." This foundation is light and airy and really can be matched to your skin tone. There is also SPF 15 in this product, so it makes you look good and protects your skin at the same time. In using foundation, only apply a dab to your finger or sponge and use sparingly around your eyes, forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Remember, less is more.

Next, I would apply a mineral based bronzer, which can be lightly dusted on for a pretty glow. Maternity Salon offers a mineral makeup bag with your custom shade; check it out on our product page. Mineral makeup is really trendy right now, because it holds a natural feel and look. It really gives you a healthy look without looking like you just had a fight with a blush brush.

As for eye shadow and liners, there are so many beautiful colors and textures available with "MAC, Bobby Brown, or Revlon. (Really the list is endless)" Right now, I am using MAC. They sell their colors in these small palettes, which are really cute and totally compact. Usually when I go to MAC, their consultants are super helpful; just tell them what you want (a natural looking color that matches your skin tone or coloring.)

This is also fun, because if you have time you can have them do a 'mini-makeover' at the counter and they suggest the right products and how to use them. Ask for advice on applying the eye shadow or liner, makes sure it's to your liking. Don't be afraid to speak up if you think the colors are too dark or light. I usually don't leave MAC without an eye shadow, lip gloss and mascara. These three products are essential.

Lip gloss is really the icing on the cake. Without lip gloss your look is not complete. Choosing a light, natural shade can help in creating a finished look for your new "Mommy Makeover."

So, now you have your basics on the beginning of your new "Mommy Makeover," make a difference today and get yourself feeling great and motivated.

PS - Swing by a maternity clothing store like, "Motherhood, Pea in a Pod or Old Navy," purchase a few essential outfits to really complete your look. You'll be happy you did.

How to apply makeup

:
Women use makeup to enhance their natural beauty. Following these instructions will help you will learn how to apply makeup for all occasions. Begin by washing your face. Use a gentle cleanser that does not dry out the skin. Follow up with a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type. Cover your clothing with a towel to protect it while you do your makeup application.

Concealer comes next

Even top models don't have flawless skin. Concealer hides any blemishes or undereye circles. Select a color one shade lighter than your foundation. Using your ring finger, put dots of concealer over any blemishes and undereye circles. Blend it in with the tip of that finger or a makeup sponge. You can use either a liquid concealer or a solid type.

Foundation is the base

A liquid foundation that matches your skin tone exactly is the best choice. Start by putting it on in dots over the middle of your face. Use your fingertips or a makeup sponge to spread it out until it covers your entire face. The foundation will cover the concealer.

To keep the foundation in place, dust on loose or pressed powder in the same color with a brush or powder puff. You can take a compact with pressed powder with you for touchups later.

The eyes have it

There are several steps in how to apply makeup around the eyes. Start with the eyebrows. If they have been plucked excessively, you will need to create a browline using eyebrow pencil or powdered shadow. These products can also fill in any gaps in the natural brows. Eyebrow pencil can look harsh and unnatural unless used carefully. To apply powdered eyebrow shadow, use a hard slanted brush.

Eye shadow should coordinate with your eye color and your skin tones. Use dark eye shadow to line the edge of your upper eyelid, following along above the upper lashes. Medium colored eye shadow is placed above that and up to the crease of the eye. Light eye shadow goes from there to just under the eyebrow. For day wear, use matte colors. Gleaming or sparkling colors are more appropriate for evening.

Wet a cake eyeliner in a darker coordinating color to bring out the eyes more and apply it in a thin line on the bottom edge of the upper eyelid using a brush. If you wish the eyes to appear larger, apply the eyeliner only on the upper eyelid, extending the line about one-half inch beyond the corner of the eye. Women with large eyes or who prefer a more dramatic evening look may also apply eyeliner on the edge of the lower lid below the eyelashes. Make sure the lines are thin to avoid a raccoon appearance. Eyeliner pencil can be used instead of the cake eyeliner.

Mascara is the last step in the eye part of makeup application. Again, select a color based on your skin tone, using dark brown if you are fair and black for darker skin. Navy or plum can be used for evening, but are not really appropriate for work. Dip the applicator into the tube and gently wave it over the upper and lower lashes. Wait a few minutes for it to dry before applying a second coat. This will help avoid clumping. For evening, you may wish to use an eyelash curler to get a more exotic look, but be sure to do this before applying mascara.

Blush adds life

Blush comes in both powder and gel forms. Whichever you choose, apply it sparingly to avoid looking like a clown. Find the apples of your cheeks by smiling and then put the blush either on them or just below, whichever is more flattering to you.

Kissable lips

Pick a lipstick color that goes with both your skin tone and your outfit. Either apply it from the tube or use a lipstick brush as professional makeup artists do. Add lip liner around the edges of the lips after the lipstick has been applied. Make sure the lipliner color is a similar shade to the lipstick, as very dark lipliner with pale lipstick will look silly.

Be safe with your cosmetics

Cosmetics don't last forever. They can become contaminated with bacteria, so to be safe they should be discarded once they get old. This is especially important for mascara which should not be kept longer than one year after it is first used. Avoid risking health problems by not sharing cosmetics with other people.

Now that you know how to apply makeup, why not practice before your next big event? By following these instructions, you'll look great wherever you go.

What are botox injections and are they for you

Everybody wants to look beautiful and forever young but as we grow older, loss of the skin’s softness is expected resulting in wrinkles and signs of aging. One way to slow down this visible aging process is through cosmetic therapies and injections. Currently there are a lot of products in the market that promise you a younger and attractive appearance.

Every day we watch a lot of advertisements of cosmetic treatments, which give assurance of their products. Mostly what we expect from these products is that they will remove our wrinkles and folds that look unattractive. Among these products most popular are collagen, Restylane and Botox injections. These injections have their own applications and characteristics. Let’s focus our attention on Botox in this article.

The botulinum toxin has been known for centuries but it has been appreciated recently with the discovery of Botox. Botox was introduced thirty years ago. Earlier it was injected into the muscles surrounding the eyes of those patients who were suffering from crossed eyes.

Botox (Botulinum a toxin) injection is a method to recover your smooth and soft look. Botox injection is a FDA (Food and Drug Association) approved treatment. It is a purified protein, which is derived from bacterium clostridium botullinum, a toxin that can also cause food poisoning. Botox is a simple and speedy treatment. According to ASAPS (American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) Botox is the fastest growing treatment for wrinkles.

Wrinkles originate with the over usage of facial muscles. Botox is injected into targeted muscle with a fine needle. Botox simply inactivates the muscles that produce wrinkles. Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine chemical, which transmits nerve signals to contract the muscle. So, it is a mechanism of muscle inactivation. This process weakens the muscles that produce frown lines. With Botox these lines are smoothed out and become almost invisible within a week.

Botox mainly targets crows feet, frown lines, laugh lines and forehead lines. It is injected in small doses. It is a fast therapy. Botox has been used for years in treating a variety of patients. Botox injection can also be used for migraine headaches. It also can decrease sweating on palms, under arms and at the hairline.

It is advised to the Botox-injected patients that they adhere to a few guidelines and implications before and after the treatment if they want optimal results. After the injection, ice can be applied to the targeted area that will reduce any swelling and discomfort. Injection procedure takes only about ten minutes and after that patients can return to their routine life without delay. Do not massage the treated area as this may cause bruising. Botox cannot be used during pregnancy, breastfeeding or on neurology patients.

If too much toxin is injected or if it is injected at a wrong place in the body, a droopy eyelid muscle may result that lasts for a week or more. Botox effects last for 3-6 months and it causes minimal pain. Definitely this product is good for those people who want to change their look and want a wrinkle free, smooth and clear appearance with out full blown surgery.
